Mums share ‘free’ Christmas grocery shops using supermarket loyalty schemes
A woman has revealed the easy way she scored her Christmas grocery shop for “nothing” – and how you can get yours free next year too.
Budget conscious mums have been sharing photos of their huge Christmas shops and revealing how they got them for “nothing”.
Using the Australian supermarkets loyalty programs, Woolworths Rewards and Coles Flybys, women told how they scored their family’s festive feasts for “free”.
One woman showed off her impressive Christmas grocery shop unpacked in the Budgeting, Food, Savings Ideas, Stockpiling, Life Help Australia Facebook page, writing she hadn’t paid a cent for it because she’d saved her points at Woolworths all year.
Displayed on her kitchen counter were grocery staples we all use, including cheese, butter, milk, fresh fruit and vegies – and even the highly-sought after toilet paper.
There were also snack foods and desserts as well as essentials such as kitchen foil and glad wrap.

While another woman shared a photo of her car boot filled with Woolies bags, helpfully writing in the She’s on the Money Facebook page: “All these groceries cost me $27.”
The woman went on to explain all she did was “scan our Woolies Reward card each week” and save the points for Christmas.
“They key is to press ‘activate’ on all the bonus offers that come to your email,” she said.
“This year we had accumulated $420 for doing nothing more or extra. Just our normal groceries all year long.”
The posts have been met with huge praise, many explaining they had never thought to save up their points and use them to pay for the often expensive festive groceries.
“This is the best idea, I might try to save mine up for next year, one woman said.
“I definitely need to work our my rewards better,” said another.
“This is amazing, I am definitely going to save up my points for next year,” someone else commented.
While one woman couldn’t believe the savings, writing: “OMG I need to sort my cr*p out and get a Woolies card!!!”
Others shared their own money-saving hauls, revealing how they’d saved up and what they’d spent it on.
“$370 for us between Woolies and Coles after 6 months of doing it,” one mum said.
“I’m a single mumma to a 2yo and I accumulated $280 for Xmas. Definitely helps with boosts at Big W etc too,” another added.
“Did my entire Christmas groceries on my rewards savings yet again! Just make sure to set it to “bank for Christmas” and the credit will accumulate and become available 1 Dec. Biggest way to rack your points up is to GET THE REWARDS APP and boost all offers, I just boost everything available whether I reckon I’ll use it or not,” one mum said.
While another shared: “I also get my fuel at a woollies servo (as it’s my local servo) so I tend to back a few $ even though it’s just me in the family.”
Some shoppers who said they purchased their groceries at Aldi, which doesn’t have a rewards system, added it had inspired them to changed back.
