Bruno Bouchet sparks social media debate with Christmas food rankings

It’s been a staple of Aussie Christmas lunches forever – which is why this dad’s festive food ranking has sparked utter disbelief online.

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that it isn’t really an Australian Christmas unless you have some kind of seafood on the menu.

Which is why ‘The List King’ Bruno Bouchet has sparked so much outcry with his latest ranking of Christmas food, likening prawns to “cat vomit”.

The Sydney dad and former radio producer, who is also Kyle Sandilands’ manager, controversially ranked eggnog and panettone as the best festive food on his “god tier”.

Coming in second was turkey, marshmallow Santas and boiled sweets followed by yule log, Christmas lollies, gingerbread and cherries.

Bringing up the rear was Christmas pudding, cob loaf, pavlova and fruit mince pies which he labelled “pleb” food.

But ranked last on Bouchet’s list was prawns, candy canes and Quality Street chocolate – an outrage according to his followers on Instagram and Facebook.

“Prawns are god tier. Give yourself an uppercut,” Beau Ryan commented.

Celebrity chef Manu Feildel also agreed, writing on Facebook that he would “have prawn over turkey any day of the year”.

Others also labelled Bouchet’s rankings “ridiculous”, prompting him to defend his controversial choices.

He said that prawns were like the “coriander of the ocean” and they weren’t worth the de-shelling effort it took to eat them.

“I’ll still eat a prawn … but I won’t froth over it the way many do on Christmas,” Bouchet explained in his Instagram comments. “I have the same regard for a prawn as I do for a TV commercial break.”

But Bouchet’s defence did nothing to help his case with people claiming his list was “upside down” and “prawn slander”.

“Prawns at bottom! My dear shame on you,” one person wrote.

“How dare you disrespect prawns,” another commented.

“You’ve got to be kidding – eggnog,” another outraged person wrote.

But not everyone was upset by the ranking, with many saying they were happy to see more niche Christmas foods like panettone and eggnog top the list.

“Egg nog gets far less respect in this country than it deserves,” one person commented.
