Aussie’s Christmas lights go viral on TikTok

One Aussie’s very bright Christmas lights display has gone viral after being shared on TikTok.

Man claims to have discovered the best Christmas lights in Australia

While many Aussies are content to decorate a tree or simply put up some tinsel, that simply isn’t good enough for the Strickland family.

Every year they don their home in Burpengary East, 40km from Brisbane’s CBD, with thousands of bright lights.

People come from miles around to see the house, nicknamed “Merry Strickland” and one video of its jaw-dropping light display has been viewed nearly 190 million times on TikTok.

The home has 60,000-strong lights as well as an 11m inflatable Santa, a 3D holographic fan and moving beam lights.

David Strickland, who owns the home, told The Courier Mail the display has improved dramatically over the last four years, going “next level” this year.

“Aside from all the sacrifice, time and money, it really is the joy it brings – I mean what else can you create that is so magical and brings in so many people,” he said.

Mr Strickland said he is chuffed with the coverage.

“It’s pretty crazy, our Facebook page has nearly 10 thousand followers and there’s been TikToks with millions of views. We’re building a bit of a profile now,” he said.

But he admits it is no small feat to put together such a fabulous display.

He even had to get approval from the Aviation Authority for his 380 watt moving head beam lights which shoot up approximately 600 metres into the sky.

Growing up, Mr Strickland said he loved to decorate his parents’ home and continued to do so when he moved out for the first time and now with his own family.

“It’s always been a passion and it’s grown into something even bigger than I could have ever imagined,” he said.

“People can definitely expect next year to be just as big, if not bigger – we want to take it to the next level.”

On TikTok fans were definitely impressed.

“Amazing just beautiful,” one wrote.

“I live 5 minute walk from this place and the beam coming into the sky every night is enough to show,” a second wrote.

“Imagine the electricity bill,” a third quipped.
