The Beauty Diary: Shower products you need in your bathroom

Keeping a shower clean can be one of life’s most arduous chores, but this messy product is totally worth the nightmare it will inevitably cause.

The Beauty Diary: My winter skincare routine

Showers have always been one of my favourite ways to unwind.

There’s something therapeutic about washing away the day and emerging clean and new.

Plus, being inside a glass box that’s filled with water means there’s no distractions like the TV or my phone, so my daily splash doubles as a relaxing slice of “me” time.

And for some of us (hello all the busy mums out there), a shower is truly the only moment many of us get to ourselves in a day.

That’s why I thought I’d share some of the products that have been taking my showers to the next-level recently.

From indulgent body washes to messy body scrubs that are totally worth the hassle, here’s the shower items you need to up your game.

Available at ausnz.beanbodycare.com

Price: $22.95

I’m going to preface this by saying, I know coffee scrubs are a bloody nightmare. They go absolutely everywhere and leave your shower needing more love than you did before you got in – but my gosh, this one leaves my skin feeling like I’ve just taken a bath in hyaluronic acid so it is worth the mammoth clean up session after. Made from a just handful of ingredients – organic coffee scrub, organic cold-pressed coconut oil, Himalayan pink rock salt, sugar, cacao and vitamin E oil – coffee fans will find the scent a pure delight. The scrub itself isn’t too harsh, but is effective at buffing away dead skin cells while also leaving skin soft and moisturised. It’s best applied to wet skin, rubbed in circular motions and left on for three minutes before being washed away. Sure it makes your shower incredibly messy and means you’ll have to clean it – but having silky smooth skin is totally worth it.

L’OCCITANE ALMOND OIL SHOWER GEL

Available at David Jones, adorebeauty.com.au and au.loccitane.com

Price: $64

If you love an oil-based product but still like a frothy scrub down in the shower, this is the shower gel for you – especially if you’re into almond croissants, as that is what this product smells like, I kid you not. As well as giving shower users a jolly good time with its delicious foamy-ness, this luxe AF soap is super nourishing and doesn’t leave skin with that horrible tightness. Whenever I’m feeling like I need a bit of TLC, this is the product I grab as nothing about it is normal. It’s like having a naughty bar of chocolate while you’re dieting but without the calories – highly recommend.

LUSH SLEEPY SHOWER GEL

Available at Lush stores and au.lush.com

Price $21.95

Packed with snooze-inducing lavender, this shower gel is a tired body’s new BFF. The fragrant flower has been proven to treat insomnia and improve sleep quality, which is why whenever I’ve had a long day or I’m feeling particularly tired, I’ll use this to help aid my kip. Not only is the scent of these bubbles super relaxing from the lavender oil, but is also has oat milk in the formula which is super hydrating and soothing on skin. A friend of mine introduced me to it just before lockdown, saying she swore by it for a good night’s sleep and I have to agree it’s pretty amazing. The price is also pretty reasonable.

DERMALOGICA THERMAFOLIANT BODY SCRUB

Available at dermalogica.com.au and adorebeauty.com.au

Price: $67.00

If you’re in need of a bit of a hug right now, this product dishes up warm ones straight from the tube. Okay, not literal hugs – but the thermafoliant does literally heat up on contact with skin so it’s kind of like the next best thing. As well as being the perfect winter warmer, it’s also a gentle exfoliant too, and has a granular formula that leaves you feeling clean and fresh. So if you’re not into messy coffee scrubs but would still like to tackle dead skin, this is a great option. It contains some really great ingredients too, including lactic acid which is a proven chemical exfoliant. Its only con is the price-tag, but a worthy indulgence if you can afford it.
