CLOTH face masks have long been loved by celebrities including Rita Ora, Demi Moore, Paris Hilton and, more recently, Ricky Martin.

But the limited availability and high price point of masks available in Australia have previously been a turn off for consumers. Not any more.

Enter Lonvitalite, who have developed the 24K GOLD Yulan Oil Facial Mask. Available in salons and online, this mask is easily accessible for the mainstream market — but does it actually work? We give it the news.com.au road test:

What it says:

“Lonvitalite 24K face masks provide immediate intense cooling and soothing relief. They are highly moisturising and nourishing; smoothing out wrinkles, and hydrating the skin. The extremely active ingredients promote micro circulation in the face as well as skin regeneration. Removes lines and supplies water and nutrients for the skin cells leaving the skin more evenly pigmented and soft. Can relieve symptoms of allergies such as puffy eyes, inflammation and irritation.”

The verdict:

Kate says: I absolutely LOVED this mask. Having both sensitive and oily skin means masks are a bit of a nightmare for me — they either dry my skin out immensely and leave it red and irritated, or clog my pores up so much that I get breakouts. Not so with this one. My skin felt smooth, clean and hydrated, and I quite liked the cooling effect it had on my skin.

The mask goes on like a wet cloth, and I had no problems leaving it on for the 20 minutes suggested — it stayed wet the whole time but, because it’s literally a mask, it didn’t drip. The mask advertises ‘ultrafine micro gold foil which has been treated by multiple biochemical processes’ so I was expecting to see a few gold flecks, but this wasn’t the case, so don’t be alarmed when you test it out yourself.

After several uses my skin was definitely not as red, and looked smoother. But don’t just take my word for it ...

Rebecca says: Be warned: You will look a little scary while wearing this mask. Instagram is full of women posting hilarious selfies of their creepy mask-clad faces — we recommend you use it with the bathroom door safely closed.

The first time I used the mask, my face turned uncomfortably cold. It became almost unbearable, so I took it off after ten minutes. The second time, however, that coldness was far less severe. It was more of a cooling effect. I left the mask on for 20 minutes and after rinsing my face with water, my skin felt soft, supple and well hydrated. I looked more radiant, awake and even small spots were reduced. When I applied my foundation the next day, my skin was smooth and glowing.

At $36 for a pack of 5, these masks are a bargain compared to others on the market. They’re perfect for calming down irritated skin and are an easy way to jazz up your skin for a big event.
