IF LAST year’s vampire facial craze passed you by and you never did quite know why women started sporting 1940s style waves, then we have the story for you.

To keep you ahead of the curve ball in 2014, we’ve tracked down Priceline’s Managing Beauty Buyer Anna Hull, who has just returned from an overseas trend trip and is ready to spill on what to look out for this year — and how to DIY at home.

Here are seven pieces of inside information:

1. Hydration

What it is: It’s all about maxing up the moisture — hydrating is the key to fantastic skin and with our busy lifestyles, even the best moisturisers can sometimes not be enough. Hyaluronic acid holds up to 1000x its weight in water and works on hydration levels below the skin’s surface.

At home: Try Hydraluron. Products like Hydraluron increase the skin’s ability to retain moisture over time and make it easier to maintain the skin’s ideal hydration levels.

2. Blur technology

What it is: Blur products actually have revolutionary light reflecting properties that you apply after your daily skincare and before your makeup. They scatter light in all directions to instantly hide the signs of ageing. Thanks to this, winkles, fine lines, skin imperfections, uneven tone and open pores appear reduced and visibly corrected. Your skin feels ultra-smooth and looks visibly younger with a matte finish — instantly.

At home: Try Garnier 5 second Perfect blur Smoothing Base Perfector — Hull’s favourite beauty buy. “This blur should be used after a day cream on your entire face. And my favourite part is that it can be worn with or without makeup,” she says.

3. Bee venom

What it is: Hollywood actresses, pop stars and even royalty are literally swarming to use bee venom, the beauty ingredient hyped to be the “ultimate natural alternative to Botox.” It’s designed to revive the look of mature and stressed skin with ingredients that help reduce the visible signs of ageing, for noticeably smoother looking skin. Then moisturisers work to rehydrate and nourish skin for intensive immediate and long term miniaturisation.

No bees are harmed during the extraction of Bee Venom, but it is important to note that people allergic to bee stings should not use this product. If uncertain they should patch test before using.

At home: Try Skin Physics Bee Venom Anti-Ageing Moisturiser. This moisturiser works with a unique complex of enzymes, anti-ageing actives, luxurious Super Manuka Honey and of course, bee venom, to help visibly improve skin firmness and elasticity fast, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

4. Jellyfish DNA

What it is: There is a jellyfish that never ages. To translate its life cycle to that of a human, it goes from birth to about 20-years-old and then resets itself and starts again.

At home: DNA Reset Skin Rejuvenating Cream. This facial moisturiser uses the DNA of this amazing ‘benjamin button’ jellyfish to deliver skin that appears rejuvenated, plumper and more radiant. For best results it should be used both morning and night. DNA Reset is on shelf now, and a second product will be stocked in Priceline stores in May. “The proposition is so exciting — this is the type of thing that becomes a mega trend. In 12 months’ time, you’ll see it in all mass brands,” says Hull.

5. Omnilux light therapy

What it is: The Clarisonic has long been the hero of the facial wand category. 2013 saw brands such as Models Prefer and Olay launch their own versions of the cleansing brush. Ominlux light therapy works to naturally reduce the visible signs of skin ageing. Using a combination of lights it works to stimulate deeper skin tissue, leading to a softening of fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin tone and super smooth skin.

At home: In 2014 Priceline will launch a handheld, anti-ageing LED light that will give everyday women the opportunity to experience the benefits of Omnilux light therapy from the comfort of their home. Stay tuned for a Mother’s Day release!

6. Oils

What they are: Oils are the biggest story this year. The last couple of years have been about rosehip oil, now the focus has well and truly shifted to hair oils.

At home: Try L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil. A perfect blend of 6 oils for exceptional nourishment. Thanks to its incredibly lightweight formula, it is the most versatile hair oil. Use before shampoo for intense nutrition; before blow-drying to protect and soften; or as a finishing touch for extraordinary shine, without weighing your hair down.

7. Lips

What to expect: While lips are not a new trend the segment is rapidly growing. Bold colours as well as nudes and deep rich shades will be must haves. There are so many types of lip colour to choose from: lipstick, gloss, glaze, crayons and stains in matte, high shine and highly pigmented finishes all on offer.

At home: There are three trends to look out for.

— Revlon colourburst balms. Revlon Colorburst balms will expand with new finishes in matte and high gloss with a total of 30 shades within in their range.

— LÓreal Glam Shine balmy gloss. L’Oreal will also enter the crayon market with Glam Shine balmy gloss which will launch in Feb.

— Models Prefer High Impact. Models Prefer will also be on trend with the launch of highly pigmented high impact range. The lipstick has a velvety texture with a bold, matte finish and the high impact glossy liquid lipstick for sophisticated long wearing results.
