Women post pictures of their hairy legs online as part of a movement to empower each other

THROW out the razors, ditch the wax and turn your back on laser, ladies. We’re in the midst of a hair revolution.

THROW out the razors, ditch the wax and turn your back on laser ladies.

We’re in the midst of a hair revolution — well, sort of.

Women from all walks of life are posting pictures of their hairy legs on social media as part of a movement to encourage others to go natural.

COMMENT BELOW: Should women remove their body hair?

Facebook group WANG, which stands for Women Against Non-essential Grooming, has a wall plastered with pictures of women going native — as well as armpits and bikini lines.

The group has amassed more than 1700 members.

Their profile picture features a cat with the words: “I don’t shave my legs and I’m still a sexy beast”.

“WANG believes that everyone should be free from coercive gendered bodily norms and should have absolute bodily autonomy,” the group’s profile states.

Another online group, the Hairy Legs Club, tells women to embrace their fluff and show it off to the world with pride.

One member known as ‘spud cat’, said on the Tumblr site: “It’s such a shame we live in a world where legs or bodies in general should have to be a source of embarrassment or controversy.”

Another called Becca said: “I have hairy legs, and to be honest I feel more ‘feminine’ than ever!”

And another proud member said: “I haven’t shaved my legs for nearly a year (January). And you know what? No one cares! Or if they do, no one has said anything to my face.”

It’s not clear what has brought on the cause but it appears it’s a way of empowering women who are expected to conform to social norms — such as wearing make-up, dieting, and removing their body hair.
