An influencer who has amassed followers with her age-defying beauty tips has revealed the “shock” mistake people make about her boyfriend.
A US influencer who is regularly mistaken as a teenager because of her youthful appearance has revealed her “young” looks also mean people think her fiance is her dad.
Isabelle Lux revealed that despite being 31, she still gets asked for ID at bars, and has amassed a loyal following sharing her age-defying beauty tips.
But despite enjoying the advantages of her skin routine, the New York woman said her 7000 followers often make an awkward mistake about her partner.
“In person, people often think I’m a full decade younger than I am,” she told The Sun.
“I was really shocked to see that a few comments mistook my fiance (1.5 years older than me) for my father.”
Isabelle also went into detail on the efforts she makes to try to avoid being asked for her proof of age when she goes out.
“When I’m out, if I’m dressed down I’ll be ID’d often so I actually try to dress really well if I’m going out so my clothing can speak to my actual age a bit more,” she said.
The influencer said that the secret to looking young comes down to a strict skincare routine as well as certain lifestyle choices.
“I definitely didn’t always look younger than my age – a serious skincare routine can work wonders,” she said.
“Lifestyle choices have also made a huge difference, from stopping sun-tanning and drinking alcohol regularly to being at a healthy weight.
“I drank a lot throughout my 20s and I didn’t realise what a huge impact it has on your skin and appearance until I (mostly) stopped,” she said.
“Now I’ll have a glass of wine every two weeks with friends or family.”
Isabelle, who runs a beauty blog called Lux Guide, previously revealed in a viral TikTok video she swears by “slugging”, crediting the technique for keeping her skin looking “young”.
This is a technique that originates from South Korea where users apply a petroleum-based product to their faces after finishing a skincare routine in a bid to lock in the ingredients and trap in moisture.
While it has been around for many years, it recently blew up on social media, and Isabelle said it really works.
“I’d been doing it for 15 years before I realised there was a word for it,” she said.
While many people use Vaseline for it as it is a petroleum-based product, Isabelle uses a product called Egyptian Magic, $41.99, which you can buy on Adore Beauty in Australia.
She also shared two other tips, including tapping products into the skin around the eye area rather than rubbing them in.
“It’s not only going to deliver the product to a specific area, but it is also going to lift your whole cheekbone as it depuffs the area,” she said.
Another of her favourite tricks is to sleep with a silk eye mask every night, claiming the habit has totally transformed her eyes and banished fine lines.
She said since using a silk eye mask in her daily routine, the fine lines have completely disappeared.
Her impressive routine was widely praised online, with some claiming Isabelle looked 21.
“You literally look 21. So implementing all of these tonight,” one wrote.
“First of all I legit thought you were a teenager. Second of all, I adore your tinsel hair!” another said.
And one woman said: “No way. I still don’t think you’re 30!”
