Veteran Home and Away actor launches another new business

Summer Bay’s much-loved actor has come out with a very unique business that was inspired by George Clooney and Chris Hemsworth.

What happened to Aussie comedies?

While he does believe he looks like George Clooney and Chris Hemsworth — Ray Meagher is not taking up modelling.

The much-loved Summer Bay actor has announced he will be venturing into the world of … Raygrance.

That’s right — the 74-year-old, who plays the iconic character Alf Stewart in the popular Aussie drama Home and Away, has followed in the footsteps of fellow actors Hemsworth and Clooney in releasing his first ever fragrance. It follows the success of his flamin’ hot sauce.

“I thought, let’s have another crack and prove my hot sauce wasn’t just a fluke,” Meagher told news.com.au

“I wanted to do something different; I didn’t want to do a pie or a sausage roll, so I thought, well, I look like George Clooney and Chris Hemsworth and if those guys can do a fragrance, why can’t I?”

So how did he come up with the final “spicy, musky scent”?

“There were bits of paper stuck to the wall with all these different smells on them — so I was just walking along smelling the wall.”

He described it as “absolutely magnificent” whether it’s for a man or a woman — as the fragrance is unisex.

He was not only motivated by his “look-alikes” to launch another savvy business, but also to prove to the 59 per cent of Aussie small businesses without a website, just how easy it is to get online.

“We keep getting told that small businesses are the backbone of the Australian economy yet 59 per cent don’t have a website — they’ll be more successful if people know where to find them,” Meagher said.

“You can only reach a certain number of people driving a van with advertising on it.

“I just think small businesses can do so much better if they’re online.

“I get people think it’s difficult to get online — and I am not here because I look like George and Chris, I’m here because I am the least flamin’ technologically savvy guy in Australia and if I can build a website in under an hour, anybody can.”

According to new research conducted by GoDaddy, based on 425 respondents, 58 per cent of small business owners believe that it opens up new business opportunities, while 56 per cent believe having a website means that their business can be found on Google.

Meagher’s new fragrance will be sold online at raygrance.com for $15 including postage — all proceeds will be donated to Cure Cancer. His hot sauce has so far raised $48,000 for the charity.
