These are the seven beauty products you should store in the fridge

THE bathroom cupboard may not be the best place for all your beauty products. These are the ones you need to move.

FROM nail polishes that last longer to eye creams with super-boosted soothing powers, some beauty products are best served chilled.

1. Sheet masks

Need to calm inflamed or irritated skin? Pop your sheet mask in the fridge. “This will cool your skin’s surface temperature and cause a reduction in blood flow, which eases redness and numbs the area,” says Jenny Bui, a scientific communication manager for skincare brand Avène.

TRY: Blithe Blue Zone Marine Intensive Mask Abalone, $48 for 8 masks. Nix dehydration, settle sensitivity and soften skin with a gentle mix of minerals, proteins and hyaluronic acid.

2. Eye cream

If you need to fake awake in a hurry, keeping your eye cream cool will help you score eight hours of sleep in one swipe. “Cold sensations reduce puffiness by increasing circulation, and have a soothing effect,” Bui says.

TRY: Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream, $44. Massage this lightweight cream along your orbital bones and across your lids to de-puff eyes in an instant.

3. Vitamin C

Because vitamin C is structurally unstable, it needs to be kept away from sunlight and excess heat. If you can’t control the light or temperature in your bedroom or bathroom, store your pricey serums in the fridge.

TRY: Skinceuticals C E Feurlic Serum, $188.32. Loaded with potent antioxidants, this brightening elixir will protect your skin from premature ageing while stimulating collagen production.

4. Perfume

Constant exposure to sunlight, heat and humidity can cause scents to break down, which means your bathroom vanity isn’t the best place to store them. Keep your fragrances in the cool, dark environment of a fridge, though, and you’ll protect them from degradation.

TRY: Lancôme La Vie Est Belle L’Eclat EDT, $120. Put a spring in your step with this uplifting blend of tangerine, orange blossom and Turkish rose oil.

5. Facial mist

Make the most of soothing facial sprays by keeping them cool. According to Bui, making them cold will help minimise redness and temporarily tighten your pores, which will leave you with a calmer and more even complexion.

TRY: Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray, $25.99. Spritz your face with this nourishing spring water mist to send any redness, itching and sensitivity packing.

6. Eye pencil

If your go-to look involves a sharp cat’s eye, do as make-up artists do and pop your pencil in the fridge. The low temps will cause it to harden, which will make it easier to sharpen and help create a more precise tip for application.

TRY: Mecca Max Eye Max Eyeliner Pencil, $13. Thanks to its high-impact colour and non-stick formula, this liner makes defining your eyes a breeze.

7. Nail polish

To prevent your polish from separating or turning gluggy, stick it in the fridge. High temperatures and sunlight can destabilise the formula, so keeping your varnish cool will ensure it goes on perfectly smooth.

TRY: OPI Infinite Shine I’ll Have A Gin And Tectonic, $22.95. Brighten up your winter days with this warming hue.
