The Beauty Diary: Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation review

Fans of the iconic popstar have been going crazy over new $65 product used by Britney for her big day – and it’s as good as the hype.

The Beauty Diary: My winter skincare routine

Ask any bride about the make-up on their wedding day, and you’ll be sure to hear about the lengthy process that went into choosing their foundation.

That’s because what you put on your skin has to do a multitude of different jobs, and most foundations, to put it bluntly, just aren’t up to the job.

As well as needing staying power and longevity — weddings are notoriously long days — brides often need to wear a product with fuller coverage than they are used to for all the snaps (photos generally wash your face out).

But the last thing a bride wants is to look cakey and dry in front of their guests.

It’s truly a balancing act, which is why when it was revealed what Britney Spears was wearing on her face for her big day, I took note.

While I’ve got no plans to get married any time soon, this beauty lover can’t say no to an impressive foundation, and Brit looked glowy and luminous.

It turns out, the secret to Britney’s bridal skin was the Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation.

The famous British make-up artist revealed the iconic popstar wore her newest foundation for her nuptials (in fact, her whole face was made up with products from Charlotte Tilbury’s extensive range) in a recent Instagram post.

Luckily for me, when “Beautiful Skin” launched at the end of 2021, it was at the top of my Christmas list, so I had been using it for several months and put the product through its paces.

The luxury beauty item – which you can buy in Mecca stores and online – is infused with more skin-loving ingredients than a lot of popular face creams, which is saying something.

It has hyaluronic acid for hydration and the oh-so popular rose complex for brightening, as well as nourishing coconut extract – so you can see why it’s at the higher end of the price scale compared to, say, a drugstore brand.

The idea is to both smooth and illuminate the skin by increasing its radiance and also adding hydration into a make-up step that traditionally is known to be drying.

I loved this foundation from the moment I first used it. It is by far the best in the Charlotte Tilbury range, and she has made a few.

I’ve been using shade 4 neutral and found it has a lovely amount of coverage without being “too much” – it’s the perfect “medium” in my opinion.

To give you an idea of its appearance on the skin, it still allows my freckles to peek through, while hiding the redness across my nose and cheeks.

One TikTok user described it as “like wearing your natural skin, but better” and I wholly agree.

Another selling point is its finish, it gives skin a dewy satin finish that looks heavenly. If I use it on days I’m feeling particularly tired, it gives my face a brighter, more awake finish – which has come in particularly handy during my spout of long Covid that has left me exhausted.

My skin isn’t dry during or after using, and I don’t get those icky creases as the foundation settles the more the day goes on.

It’s also very easily to apply and super lightweight – there’s no pilling with Beautiful Skin. It goes on beautifully with a make-up sponge and a brush.

However, if you suffer with any skin issues, such as pigmentation or redness from acne, you might find this doesn’t give you enough coverage.

In my case, it’s been serving as my go-to on days when I want to look like I’ve made an effort, without actually making much of an effort – no wonder Britney chose it for her wedding day.

And judging from the reaction online to her bridal look, everyone was keen to recreate her skin at home.

“Love her makeup looks so natural and beautiful,” one user commented on Instagram.

“She did an amazing natural and flawless look for her special day,” another agreed.

While many said: “BRB, just buying this foundation now.”

So now the secret’s out, go get your glow on, just like Brit.
