The Beauty Diary: Beauty products you need post-lockdown

Dull, tired skin is something we all get from time to time – but there’s a super simple trick that will leave skin looking “amazing” in seconds.

The Beauty Diary: Effortless curls using just one tool

I’ve been avoiding make-up like the plague these last few months.

With what felt like endless lockdowns and zero interaction with my fellow humans, my enthusiasm for what was once a feel-good morning ritual plummeted.

However, with summer on the horizon and many of us finally re-emerging from our homes, my face is finally ready for some action.

And boy is it an exciting time to rediscover our love of beauty. With Christmas also just around the corner, many brands are releasing new products. There have also been a bunch of popular brands from overseas launching in Australia too.

With so much newness around, I’ve rounded up a few of my favourites.

Go-To The Removalist Clay Mask

Available at Mecca and gotoskincare.com

Price: $48

You can’t beat a weekly congestion clear-out and “the removalist” is definitely the product for the job. This clay mask is gentle and effective on skin, clearing away gross build-up without stripping it or leaving that tight feeling. It removes texture, leaves my chops brighter and smells like a delicious berry smoothie. Love this a lot.

Filorga Time-Filler Wrinkle Correction Cream

Available at Myer

Price: $119

This stuff is magic; I am so obsessed with it. The cream, which is deliciously thick and light at the same time (how?) feels like silk as you swipe it across your face. The only way I can describe it is as a mix between a balm and gel that leaves the skin surface with an even, smooth finish. It really brightens and freshens skin so I find I am happy to go make-up free after applying it – but it also sits really beautifully under foundation or a skin tint. This is such a beautiful product and there are heaps of glowing reviews online too. Definitely worth the splurge.

Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Eye Cream

Available at Adore Beauty

Price: $115

Elizabeth Arden’s retinol products are some of my faves. If you haven’t tried the brand’s capsule retinol night serum you haven’t lived! So you can imagine my excitement when this newbie landed on my desk. This eye cream promises to help beat fine lines, de-puff and brighten – and it does exactly what it says on the tin. One of the best features of this cream though is the nifty pot that gives you a single “dose” to apply, which keeps the formula in the pot away from air, protecting its potency. How good is that?

Byredo Space Black Mascara

Available at Mecca

Price: $67

This Swedish cosmetics brand, best known for its cult fragrances, launched its make-up line in Australia earlier this year to much fanfare – and for good reason. The products are cased in bold packaging with ethical formulas that are just as striking. The mascara for me is the standout of the Byredo make-up products I’ve tried, though I’ll admit, I haven’t tried them all. But the mascara is seriously next-level. The ergonomic shape of the bottle with the curved end on the wand sits really comfortably in my hand, making it really easy to apply. The brush is also really great – it grabs all my teeny lash hairs and evenly coats them, but the plastic bristles also double as a comb so they are left clump free. But best of all, the mascara doesn’t budge. I’m left panda-eye free and with natural looking lashes.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Iced Out Highlighter

Available at Sephora, Mecca and Adore Beauty

Price: $57

This is a pressed highlight that packs some serious “wow”. The formula is super pigmented and leaves a speckled, shimmer effect on skin but without the gold or bronze finish of other highlight powders making it suitable for all skin tones. It applies really smoothly, without a yucky stripe finish, and I find it is perfect for giving tired, dull skin an instant glow. I love using it after a bad night’s sleep to revive my face and it always makes me feel better.
