Teenager suffers third-degree burns while doing her nails at home
A 19-YEAR-OLD teenager was rushed to the hospital and will need skin grafts after doing her nails at home.
A teenage girl suffered third-degree burns in a freak accident while doing her nails.
Maya Edwards, 19, was soaking her nails to get rid of her nail polish in a bowl of acetone before it went up in flames, as reported by The Sun.
The beauty lover, of Leicester, in the UK, was removing her acrylic nails when a lit candle that was nearby mixed with the toxic chemical fumes, lighting the bowl on fire.
Maya sprinted to the bathroom holding the bowl to throw it into the bath in a desperate attempt to put the fire out.
However, the teen accidentally set the shower curtain on fire and she suffered third degree burns.
Her mum heard Maya’s screams and ran to the bathroom to see what was happening.
Jules Keeling, 45, rushed her daughter to the Leicester Royal Infirmary Hospital.
Maya now requires a series of skin grafts on her hands and up her arms,
The administration worker said she is in constant pain, but admits it could have been worse.
She said: “I am lucky to not have burns covering my face and lucky to not have burnt our home down.”
Acetone is an extremely flammable chemical that is a common ingredient in many brands of nail polish removers.
Maya shared photos of her burns on Facebook as a warning to other women about using nail treatment products that contain acetone.
