WRITER and comedian Rosie Waterland has announced she is the new face of an Australian lingerie brand Modibodi.

The online label sells “period, leak and sweat proof underwear” designed to be worn instead of a pad or tampon during menstruation.

Waterland told her combined 150,000 social media followers about the partnership on Thursday night.

“It is a HUGE deal for a woman who looks like me to be fronting a major national underwear campaign for a mainstream fashion brand,” Waterland wrote.

“To be photographed looking joyous and sexy and comfortable in undies that I LOVE ... well, that doesn’t happen every day for women who look like me. And it shouldn’t be taboo for women who look like me to be included in mainstream fashion. So I guess I just thought, ‘WHY NOT ME THIS TIME?’” she wrote.

The 30-year-old said she’s been a fan of the brand for years and is thrilled to be an ambassador.

“I cannot believe how freaking AMAZEBALLS I look in this campaign. Maybe being an underwear model has been my true calling all along,” she wrote.

For those wanting to know — can the undies really replace your usual tampons or pads during that time of the month?

We haven’t tried them but Waterland says they are “leakage magic” and she hasn’t used a single tampon since wearing them.

Waterland is a best selling author who began her career writing reality TV recaps for women’s website Mamamia.

She has since gone on to write a chart-topping book The Anti Cool Girl, about her traumatic childhood growing up on a housing commission estate with an alcoholic mother.

Her second book, Every Lie I’ve Ever Told, recounts her suicide attempt in 2016 following the death of her best friend.

Waterland has been open with her followers about her body image battles. She has undergone gastric band surgery and has struggled with binging and purging.

In 2016 she posted a nude photo of herself late at night on her public Facebook page, accompanied with the caption: “I just don’t give a f**k.”

“When you are spectacularly intelligent and talented, your appearance and weight should not even be an issue,” she wrote.

“I know, that as a woman, it’s not easy to say that. As a woman, even if your appearance isn’t an issue to you, it is to everyone else. I get that. But, f**k everyone else.

“We need women in the entertainment industry willing to put their intelligence and talent ahead of their looks. It may not be easy, but if we want values to change, it’s necessary.”

She continued: “I survived a childhood filled with abandonment and trauma. Then I survived mental health struggles and eating disorders. I had weight loss surgery and continue to question that decision,” she wrote.

“And in the end of all of that, this is me. This is my body. I have stretch marks. I have flabby skin. I have a belly. I have saggy boobs and I’m covered in freckles that made me cry when I was younger.

“But I’m also a best-selling author. A famous writer. An admired and funny woman. I’m touring a live one-woman show this year. I’m attending writing festivals with my heroes. I’m writing and starring in my own TV show.

“I am not flawed. I am brilliant. I am a survivor. And I make no apologies.”
