OILS are having a moment.

Hair oils, cleansing oils, Moroccan oil, coconut oil, but there’s one tried and true oil that’s withstood the test of time — rosehip.

The ancient Egyptians, Mayans and Native Americans all used rosehip oil because of it’s healing properties and now celebrities like Miranda Kerr, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rose Byrne have name-dropped it as the secret to their radiant complexion.

Even the glowiest girl of them all — Kate Middleton uses it daily.

Contrary to the name, this product doesn’t smell anything like roses, but those in the know swear by it.

So what’s all the fuss about?

What it is:

What it says:

“Combining nourishing essential fatty acids with super antioxidants, lycopene and phytosterol, this certified organic beauty oil is deeply moisturising while helping to protect against environmental free radical damage. Independent clinical studies show this rosehip oil is brightening, improves skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, elasticity and firmness.”

The verdict:

Alison says: “Heck, if it’s good enough for Miranda, it’s good enough for me! I’ve been using rosehip oil every night for two weeks now and I have to say I’m really genuinely pleased with the results. I knew it was making a difference when I forgot to apply it one night and the results were written all over my face the next morning. My skin definitely didn’t have the same softness and dewiness that I’d gotten used to. While I always thought I needed to strip oil off my skin, not put it on, I have to say I shouldn’t have written oil off so quickly. It’s actually non-greasy and super light and I love that it’s a natural, organic product. I’m loving the perky glow and brightness my skin has each morning. This is definitely one of the best skincare decisions I’ve made. I’m hooked.”

Kate Middleton’s flawless complexion is also reportedly due to rosehip oil.

Rebecca says: “Winter has not been kind to my skin. These harsh windy days mean I usually lather my skin in an intensive moisturiser, morning and night, to prevent it from drying out and flaking. I’d heard beauty editors sing the praises of face oils, but it seemed to strange to add oil to my skin as I normally stick to oil-free, non-greasy products.

But this stuff is great. I dab a few drops onto my skin at night and massage in well. I don’t bother with moisturiser at night anymore. My skin feels more soft, supple and healthy and I can scrub off my makeup and exfoliate well without worrying I’ll dry out my skin.

The feeling of having oil sitting on my face and getting in my hair isn’t pleasant. I’m still getting used to the sensation, but this skin is worth it.”
