ANGELINA d’Auguste, a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York chose to photograph people with albinism for her final thesis.

She decided on the project after discovering images of Shaun Ross, an American model with albinism.

She told Refinery29 her aim was to show the models’ in a new light.

“Most people have never interacted with anyone with albinism. Unfortunately, it is difficult for [people with albinism] to fit in society, so I wanted to show their distinct, beautiful features in a positive way.”

This rare genetic condition affects about 1000 Australians (which is 1 in 17,000). The condition is marked by a reduction in melanin production in hair, skin, and eyes. Typically, a person with albinism will have vision problems and some variation in their hair or skin colour, ranging from stark-white to brown.
