Newsreader Kamady Rudd goes make-up free for a week
AT FIRST, Kamady Rudd was “nervous” about starting her own make-up-free experiment, but after a few days without cosmetics, the newsreader’s story is now going viral.
A NEWSREADER in the US has gone a whole week without wearing make-up while on air, in her own “experiment” to see how going barefaced would impact her confidence.
Kamady Rudd, from WZZM13 in Michigan, told Glamour magazine that her day started at 2.30am, and every morning would require an eight-step make-up routine involving foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, fake eyelashes, brow make-up, contour powder, blush and lipstick.
But after reading a study on how a woman’s appearance impacted how competent they’re perceived, Ms Rudd gave her morning regimen the flick.
“The first day I was a little nervous,” she told the magazine.
“I even mentioned it to the comedians I was interviewing. They acted like they didn’t notice and it wasn’t brought up again.”
But with every day that passed, she said the angst started to subside.
“Either people say they didn’t notice, or say they noticed but were able to acknowledge ‘Huh, she isn’t wearing make-up’ and move on,” she said.
“I think that says something really good about people.”
On her Instagram post, which has gained more than 280 likes, Ms Rudd said that everyone had responded well to the experiment.
“My confidence on air didn’t change, to be honest,” she wrote next to a collage of photos taken throughout her make-up-free week.
“I totally forgot about my bare face once my day really began.
“In conclusion ... no make-up (for me) = nothing different.”
Rudd, who didn’t change what she wore on air, said she wanted to prove that she could do her job without worrying about her appearance.
“I really wanted to prove to myself that I could cover a story with as much focus on the actual story as normal, without worrying about my appearance,” she said.
“I’m all for make-up, or no make-up. Whatever you want to wear is, and should always be, totally up to you.”
