Mum reveals why she refused to cover up her 10cm facial birthmark on her wedding day
A BRIDE has revealed why she refused to cover a birthmark spanning 10cm across her face on her wedding day.
AN inspirational mum-of-two has revealed why she refuses to cover up the 10cm birthmark on her face — despite cruel comments and stares from strangers in the street.
Mental health counsellor and author Ferrin Roy, who wrote The Mark She Kept about her story, is also urging others to embrace their differences.
The 30-year-old, from Louisiana, USA, told Mail Online: “I completely embrace my birthmark.
“I never covered it and never will, I love answering questions about it and I just feel so good.”
Ferrin says she never even noticed her birthmark until she was nine years old, and it was never picked up on at school.
But it was a different story when she was out in public.
“Some people would squint their eyes, ask if it was paint, inquired about removal and also several people have asked to touch it,” she said.
But Ferrin never let other people’s opinions let her down, and is determined to inspire others to think the same way.
“My birthmark is not only raising awareness but it’s helping others embrace their uniqueness,” she said.
“I’ve always felt confident while gazing into a mirror,” she added.
“My birthmark is a part of me, I will not cover it to satisfy the view of others. I will always be myself and no one is worth me changing who I am.”
