A BEAUTY queen who was stripped of her title after admitting she did not like having her picture taken has been treated for depression.
Former Miss Puerto Rico, Kristhielee Caride, has revealed how she was checked into a psychiatric ward after being ‘hit hard’ by the controversy.
Caride, 24, had admitted in an interview last year that she did not like cameras.
Explaining the decision to strip her of her title at the time, Desiree Lowry, national director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico said: “Miss Puerto Rico is a public figure and part of your job is to be in front of the camera.
“You always have to put your best face forward. It’s a given that we are going to be in front of cameras and that we have to answer all types of questions.”
Caride is now pursuing legal action against the organisation, saying she feels “betrayed”.
She told Univision: “This situation hit me very hard. I can tell you I got some help because a dark depression came over me.
“(I feel) betrayed by the organisation because there was never a moment that I disrespected them.”
She added: “There wasn’t a reason for them to do what they did to me.”
She was replaced by Brenda Jimenez as Puerto Rico’s new contestant for Miss Universe.
