RAE MORRIS knows a good beauty product when she sees one.

Widely regarded as one of Australia’s best makeup artists, Morris has worked with a who’s who of international models, actors, designers and celebrities, and her work has appeared in print, on television and in film.

She’s also a favourite on the fashion festival circuit and was in Melbourne last week as makeup director of Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, on behalf of Priceline. We caught up with her backstage and grilled her about the bargain beauty products she was using on the models.

Here are the top 10 products that she can’t live without backstage.

1. BIODERMA Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution 250 ml $31.99

This is my absolute number one product from the Bioderma range. In fact, whenever I do shows in Paris, you’re not allowed backstage without it! None of the international models will let you use anything else on their skin to remove makeup. If I have to do 10 different looks on a model’s face, I can take makeup on and off a hundred times with this product and their skin won’t go red. What I also love about this product is that it cleans any fall out (when doing eye makeup before skin) then you can put both foundation and makeup straight on-top of it whereas most removers you have to rinse them off. I love the fact that you don’t need water!

2. NUXE Baume Levres Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm 15 g $19.99

This product gives a great matte finish. I use it every day and it lives in my handbag, and I love that it’s not super glossy. It’s the most moisturising balm I have ever used. It can also be used as a great brow balm — I put it on a mascara wand and comb it through eyebrows to keep them really groomed and soft looking. It’s also great to use on male lips because it isn’t glossy.

3. LA ROCHE-POSAY Anthelios XL SPF 50+ Ultra Light 50 ml $27.99

Sunscreen is a must-have.
Sunscreen is a must-have.

This is the only sunscreen I use under foundation, and I wear it consistently throughout the year. Dermatologists recommend using this product after laser or any kind of intense skin treatment. I personally can’t use any other sunscreen without breaking out. One tip — never spray perfume on your chest, as it will kill the active ingredient in sunscreen, cancelling out the protection.

4. PEOPLE FOR PLANTS Cucumber, Aloe Hydration Gel 50 ml $29.99

A model favourite.

Models absolutely love this product because it is instantly calming on the skin. I am a huge fan of this brand, it’s so natural and organic that you could probably eat it if you wanted to!

5. SALLY HANSEN Airbrush Legs 75 g $26.99

This is an amazing product and unlike other instant tanning products it doesn’t rub off on clothes. Instead, it gives a beautiful matte look and covers bruises. It’s particularly great for weddings. It also works brilliantly on the décolletage area, just get a big brush and blend it in. The décolletage can really show ageing on women, but if you matte the area it will really put youth back into your skin. Just remember, to not spray it directly onto your décolletage!

6. L’OREAL PARIS Telescopic Mascara in Black 8 ml $26.95

This is the mascara you need.

My absolute number one favourite mascara, I love the comb wand as it gets every single lash root to end. I use this product on my lashes every day!

7. URIAGE Eau Thermal Uriage Water Spray 50 ml $8.99

A perfect pick-me-up.
A perfect pick-me-up.

This product is fantastic to seal make up, and to hydrate and refresh the skin during a long photo-shoot and it also works to moisturise dry eyes. There has never been a shoot where I haven’t pulled this one out of my bag!

8. L’OREAL PARIS Lumi Magique Light Infusing Foundation 30 ml $33.95

If you want ‘Victoria’s Secret’ skin, the kind that gives you that inner glow, this is the foundation for you. Not only does it have great coverage, but it also gives the skin that dewy finish that is very on trend at the moment.

9. RIMMEL Scandal’Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner 1.2 g $9.95

I fell in love with this product when I first used it at VAMFF last year. The shade is so intense, and it really allows you to get that perfect look — even better, once dried it doesn’t budge!

10. MANICARE Glam Eyes, Jessica Lashes 1 ea $13.09

The ultimate lash-boost.
The ultimate lash-boost.

This is one product that I want to convince every woman to try! These lashes do amazing things for the eyes. I wear these myself for every red carpet event, and every celebrity I work with requests these lashes. Once you have applied them you can keep building on top with mascara.
