Machine Gun Kelly drops his own line of nail polish
Machine Gun Kelly is the latest male celebrity to drop a beauty line, and it’s all about the nail polish.
Harry Styles made a splash last month when he officially announced his own non-binary beauty line, Pleasing. Following the drop, searches for male beauty products went up by 393 per cent — so it’s not surprising that other male celebs are following the trend.
The latest celebrity to jump on board is fellow nail polish fan, Machine Gun Kelly, aka Colson Baker.
The rapper-turned-pop-star (and one half of odd yet beautiful celeb couple, with Megan Fox) officially launches his unisex nail line — named UN/DN LAQR — on December 2 (but keep in mind, that’s USA time, so Aussie shoppers will have to wait until tomorrow).
According to an interview with Allure, he took his inspiration — both for his many fashion choices over the years and his new line — from the Greek gods.
“Many of the men in Greek mythology were warriors or soldiers or gods who had used their strength, and then there was Cupid, who was poetic and beautiful,” said MGK.
“I wonder what a world of Cupids (would) look like instead of just people falling into what they think we have to be as ‘men,’” he continued. “Strength comes in how you honor your word, not what you literally can do with your hands. That’s an art.”
While Harry Styles became famous for his non-binary fashion looks and often painted nails, MGK took his nails to the next level, like the impressively long an pointy ones he donned to pick up his 2021 iHeart Radio Music Award — and it’s been no accident.
“I was like the longer (the nail) is, the louder the opinions are going to be, so make it as long as you possibly can, and throw some chains on it to make it even more clanky. I was doing it to make ‘his nails’ a constant headline knowing that we had UN/DN coming out,” he explained in the interview — and honestly, well played, sir.
There’ll be 10 shades of nail polish to choose from, including a range of neutrals, pastels, and bold colours.
They’re running for about $25 (USD$18) individually, or a variety of three-polish sets for about $73 (USD$52). If you’re feeling particularly glam, there are also polish kits with six different shades plus a clean-up and art brush for about $121 (USD $86). It’s almost Christmas, after all.
