MAC cosmetics are on the verge of starting a stampede.

To celebrate #NationalLipstickDay, MAC — who are best known for their range of lip shades and textures — will be giving away free full-sized lipstick samples at any MAC outlets, David Jones Counters and participating Myer stores in Australia.

And, unlike most giveaways — this freebie has no real catch, except that you need to follow their Instagram page.

“In celebration of National Lipstick Day, which falls on Saturday 29th July 2017, MAC is celebrating by gifting customers our iconic MAC Lipstick bullet,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.

“Customers must simply sign-up in store and follow us on Instagram @maccosmeticsaustralia to redeem a free Lipstick bullet.”

MAC lipsticks start from $36 a pop, but shade selections are limited and will vary from store to store.

National Lipstick Day is recognised annually on July 29, and because stock will be limited - expect a line. Oh, and you can only grab one lipstick per person.

MAC cosmetics were first developed in Toronto, Canada by makeup artist and photographer Frank Toskan and salon owner Frank Angelo.

The pair were frustrated by the lack of makeup that photographed well.

They started to make the cosmetics in their kitchen, and sold the products straight to artists, models and photographers.

In March 1984, the pair launched their first MAC counter in a Toronto department store.

In 1994, Mr. Angelo and Mr. Toskan sold 51 per cent of their business to Estee Lauder Inc., but held on to creative control of the brand.

Lipstick is the number one category at MAC, with the cosmetics company producing one bullet per second, according to The Globe and Mail.

In 1988, Madonna wore MAC’s intense Russian Red onstage during her Blond Ambition world tour, making the shade a top seller. Globally, their most popular colour is Ruby Woo, which was developed in 1999.
