Staying true to form, Ms Bonilla continues to smile at the crowd despite no longer wearing the crown. Stealing the show, second placegetter Yeimy Lizeth Silvestre, parades around with the glittering headpiece in front of spectators and cameras.

After a few moments, Ms Lizeth Silvestre returns to the podium and plonks the crown back on the winner’s head, which subsequently falls off seconds later.

The sore loser is then escorted off stage by security, while the winner blows her a sassy kiss.

This isn’t the first time a Colombian beauty queen has seen her crown slip away.

In 2015, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was announced as the winner of Miss Universe, only to be stripped moments later of the title and crown because she was actually the second place getter.

Host Steve Harvey was forced to apologise for the mix-up, putting the blunder down to human error.

A few minutes after the awkward announcement, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was announced and crowned as the rightful winner of the global pageant.

Just last month, a Brazilian beauty queen was left red-faced after being wrongly crowned the winner of a pageant, and her rival was given her crown.

Leticia Cappatto and Karliany Barbosa were in the running for the title of Miss Rondonia Mundo in northwest Brazil.

Upset and humiliated, Leticia lost her crown to her rival.

Leticia was first announced as the winner, but it slipped off her head and hit the floor.

But that wasn’t the worst part of her day. As she was putting the crown back on her head, it was announced that a mistake had been made and her competitor Karliany was the real winner.

The crowd were left unhappy and could be heard booing, as Leticia’s face turned to disappointment.
