Forget the swimsuit round or the celebrity judges, Rio de Janeiro’s maximum security prison for women has hosted its annual beauty pageant for its inmates.

For a couple of hours each year, some of Brazil’s most dangerous women are allowed to step out of their prison uniforms and have their hair and make-up done for the annual beauty pageant.

According to Reuters, the events is intended to improve the self-esteem of the prisoners, where they’re judged on beauty, attitude and appeal.
