Inside a Brazilian prison’s beauty pageant
FORGET the celebrity judges or swimsuit rounds, this is how the inmates at Talavera Bruce prison in Rio de Janeiro compete in their annual beauty pageant.
Forget the swimsuit round or the celebrity judges, Rio de Janeiro’s maximum security prison for women has hosted its annual beauty pageant for its inmates.
For a couple of hours each year, some of Brazil’s most dangerous women are allowed to step out of their prison uniforms and have their hair and make-up done for the annual beauty pageant.
The women get dressed up in gowns and high heels and strut down a makeshift catwalk as part of the event.
According to Reuters, the events is intended to improve the self-esteem of the prisoners, where they’re judged on beauty, attitude and appeal.
The contest is run by the church, with volunteers assisting to style the women. This year, the title was won by inmate Mayana Rosa Alves.
