Huge spike for Kim Kardashian’s ‘honey’ blonde hair in Australia

A photo of Kim Kardashian has sent Australians into a mad rush as they clamber to recreate her new look – but don’t make this easy mistake.

‘Staggering’ rise for Kim K's 'honey' hair in Australia

There’s no denying the power of a Kardashian – particularly Kim, who has just sent Australians into a frenzy as they clamber to recreate her latest look.

The mum-of-four famously dyed her dark locks platinum blonde in just 14 hours to attend the Met Gala wearing Marilyn Monroe’s historic “Happy Birthday Mr President” gown in May.

The 42-year-old has since embraced a new stage of her “blonde era”, recently switching to a warmer, softer hue her hairdresser Chris Appleton has described as “honey hair”.

Since rocking the “fun, golden” shade of blonde, Australians have become hooked on the reality star’s new hair, with Google searches for “Kim K’s honey hair” soaring by over 9000 per cent Down Under recent weeks, according to LOOKFANTASTIC.

“‘Honey Hair’ is a breakout topic on Google, with searches for the term skyrocketing by a staggering 9300 per cent over the past week in Australia,” a spokesperson for the brand said. “Google searches for ‘Kim Kardashian hair’ have also increased by 346 per cent over the past week in Australia, as people look for the star’s new hair as inspo for the summer season.”

This is a sentiment shared on the ground in hair salons across the country, with award-winning celebrity stylist Jaye Edwards stating it has “spiked in popularity” recently.

“Honey hair is a warm based natural looking tone (which) has spiked in popularity thanks to celebrities like Hailey Bieber and Kim Kardashian,” he told news.com.au.

“We have seen a huge rise in the salon of people showing us images of Hailey as their transformation reference pic.”

Jaye, who has 9 salons across Australia, explained it’s popular as it has the “less is more vibe” making it easier to maintain and giving it “more longevity” than traditional blondes.

“The Hailey Bieber soft ombre is all about a few strategically placed, subtle honey highlights,” he said.

“The key to keeping this look natural is by keeping the highlights in the brunette family and never going all the way to the root.

“Leaving the root tone natural gives sparkly dimension between the honey bronze highlights and brunette base shade.”

Of course, if you’re looking to get the most out of an expensive salon visit, Jaye recommends using specialised products at home to keep hair looking its best.

“Look out for ‘safe for colour-treated hair’ - these products don’t contain sulphates and parabens, which fade colour faster,” he said.

“Warm, honey tones will always fade over time, I suggest booking in for regular glosses, these are quick 15 minute in salon treatments that help make your colour pop again without booking a full colour service.”

Kim’s hairdresser Chris shared a common mistake he was noticing with the “honey” trend, as many were mistaking it for “caramel”, something he said was totally different.

“This is not caramel, but it’s a very different colour,” he said.

“That is much darker and has more contrast, honey is lighter and softer and more golden.”
