Hood By Air creates ‘nasty’ manicure at New York Fashion Week
DIRTY nails are disgusting, but that didn’t stop this designer from creating a ‘nasty nail’ manicure at New York Fashion Week.
NAIL trends at Fashion Week are usually quite predictable.
Beauty editors normally float from loving clean, beige neutrals to elaborate nail art or bright pops of colour for summer. There’s only so much you can do with nail polish, right?
Well, clothing label Hood By Air tried to mix things up at New York Fashion Week this year with a “nasty nail”.

Manicurist Dawn Sterling said Hood by Air founder Shayne Oliver wanted a nail that looked caked with dirt and grime. We have no idea why, because dirty nails are disgusting.
“We’re doing a nasty nail — there’s no other way to describe it. It’s for the person draped in HBA [Hood By Air], who is all about fashion, fishing, and gardening, but doesn’t really give a f*** what anybody else thinks,” she told The Cut.
“So yeah, I’m going to be wearing my $25,000 coat and do my fishing, and not care about a nude or a French. It’s like, it’s f***ed up, and I love it, and I don’t really care.”
Ironically, this look was created using a Chanel nail polish.
Sterling painted the nail in ‘Black Satin’, then wiped it off so the nail looked like it was dipped in dirty water.
One thing’s for sure — Coco Chanel would not approve of this.
