Here’s how you can nab a free tube of Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara in time for the weekend.

WHEN it comes to a freebie, even if you’re not into the product, you’ll probably snap it up anyway — especially when it’s designer.

From Friday, beauty fiends are in for a real treat, with Marc Jacobs Beauty handing out tubes of their best-selling mascara through selected Sephora outlets — and there’s no real catch.

The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara retails for $39 at Sephora.

All you have to is bring in your old or used mascara (and it can be any brand) to one of three Sephora outlets and you’ll be sent away with a slick Marc Jacobs tube for free.

Dubbed ‘The Great Exchange’ initiative, from October 26 to 27, you can head into Sephora Pitt Street Sydney, Sephora Melbourne Central or Sephora Chermside in Brisbane to snap up your freebie.

The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Volume Mascara is a fan favourite.

A full size of the product normally retails for around $39, and while these freebies will be ‘travel size’ you’re still getting a bestseller for when you’re on the go.

But when it comes to a beauty giveaway, consumers beware — it’s not always a pretty scene.

In 2017, MAC cosmetics started a social media firestorm when their free lipstick giveaway left thousands of makeup fanatics empty-handed.

During the promotion in June, MAC makeup outlets, David Jones and selected Myer stores across the country offered customers a free full-sized lipstick to celebrate National Lipstick Day.

Promoting the giveaway on Instagram only, thousands of fans shared, tagged and geared up for a free lip shade because — unlike most giveaways — this promotion had no catch.

The MAC lipstick giveaway last year left thousands empty-handed.

Fans were told to show up, follow MAC’s Instagram page and enjoy a new lippie.

But instead, thousands of customers were left empty-handed after the “disgraceful” giveaway ran out of stock within minutes of some doors opening.

“Sold out of the free lippies in Myer Liverpool in minutes,” one customer wrote on Instagram.

“So devo by 9:30 they had all the free lipsticks gone,” another said.

One angry customer said they will never be buying from the brand again.

“I wasted a 25 minute drive … I won’t be buying Mac again,” she wrote.

Here’s hoping for a bit of calm when doors open in Sephora on Friday.
