Heartbreaking reason Pamela Anderson doesn’t wear makeup anymore

She’s been applauded for attending Paris Fashion Week makeup-free – but there’s a heartbreaking story behind Pamela Anderson’s new look.

It’s been hailed as an “act of courage and rebellion” – but there’s actually a sad backstory to Pamela Anderson’s latest makeup-free look.

The former Baywatch actress, 56, made headlines last week when she appeared at various Paris Fashion Week events with a noticeably bare face, seemingly without any makeup on.

Her bold look was praised by many fellow female celebs, with Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis leading the charge on Instagram, declaring Anderson had ushered in a “natural beauty revolution.”

But in a recent interview with Elle, Anderson explained the reasoning behind her new look – and it’s rather more sad than Curtis suggests.

Anderson’s longtime makeup artist, Alex Vogel, died of breast cancer in April 2019.

“She was the best,” Anderson told Elle. “And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.”

While her new look may have been sparked by the death of the woman she trusted to put together her previous signature, high-glam look, Anderson also told the outlet she was embracing her new, more natural appearance.

She said that, after so many years as one a glamorous Hollywood bombshell, stepping out in front of cameras without any makeup felt “freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious too. Because I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite what everyone’s doing,” she said.

And as anyone who watched Anderson’s recent acclaimed Netflix documentary will know, the star has a down-to-earth sense of humour about the ageing process.

“I think we all start looking a little funny when we get older. And I’m kind of laughing at myself when I look at the mirror. I go, ‘Wow, this is really … what’s happening to me?’ It’s a journey.”

Of course, Anderson has worn makeup since Vogel’s passing four years ago – she channelled her ‘90s look to walk the red carpet at the premiere of her Netflix doco back in January.

Curtis led the charge in praising Anderson’s Paris Fashion Week looks, sharing a photo of the star without any makeup and saying she felt “floored” at what she was seeing.

“This woman showed up and claimed her seat at the table with nothing on her face. I am so impressed and floored by this act of courage and rebellion,” she wrote.

Other female celebs rushed to agree with Curtis’ appraisal.

“Beautiful,” said Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards.

“And she was GLOWING,” wrote RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, while comedian Chelsea Handler called Anderson “pretty iconic.”
