AN UNQUALIFIED “body modifier” has been charged after allegedly mutilating a woman’s genitalia.

The 37-year-old man was arrested earlier today at his Terrigal home on the NSW Central Coast and has been charged with prohibition of female genital mutilation.

The 33-year-old woman complained to police after she underwent a procedure at his business in Newcastle West in 2016.

NSW Police were photographed raiding a shop called Transition at Erina Fair this morning after his arrest.

It’s believed the man began working at Transition at least two years ago after leaving the business in Newcastle West where the alleged offence occurred.

An Instagram profile for the alleged offender shows the work he has previously done.

Photographs of split tongues, ears sliced to resemble an elf shape and implants placed into people’s heads and hands to resemble things like horns and scarab beetles have all been uploaded to the account.

In the man’s Instagram bio, he writes he has “10 years experience” in the body modification realm.

A link to the alleged offender’s YouTube account also offers belly button and nipple removal.

A sign outside the Erina Fair store includes tattoos, body piercing, body modification, barbering and laser tattoo removal as services it provides.

The shop offers pointed ear modifications, which gives the person ears resembling an elf.

A description for the store on Erina Fair’s website describes its staff as “specialists in our fields, with extensive training and experience”.

“We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming atmosphere for all ages, in a clean, safe and sterile environment,” it reads.

Detectives from two separate police districts formed a task force to investigate after the woman’s complaint.

The 37-year-old man, who police describe as a “tattooist/body modifier”, was arrested at 8am this morning and was interviewed at Gosford police station.

Police said the man was not a qualified medical practitioner and was assisting officers with their inquiries.

“Body modification is currently not legislated in NSW, however members of the so-called skin penetration industry are required to follow public health regulations,” police said in a statement.

The man has been granted strict conditional bail and has been issued with a Court Attendance Notice to face Gosford Local Court on Tuesday, May 15.
