Dove’s #OneBeautifulThought campaign challenges the negative way we view ourselves

HOW often do you look in the mirror and think, I just don’t look good today?

This dress makes me look fat, my hair is always messy, and why do my legs have to be so short?

It’s true that we are often our own worst enemies, and that’s exactly what beauty brand Dove has addressed in its latest campaign.

Dove France asked women to make a journal entry every time they had a thought about themselves. These women were then invited out for a coffee in which they overhear those exact thoughts being verbalised in conversation by two actresses.

With comments like “Your face looks like a bulldog’s, you’ve got lines going from your nose down here” and“Sit up straight, otherwise your belly looks big”it’s a surprisingly confronting video - and it’s all too easy to picture yourself in the same situation.

The video ends with the words “If it’s not acceptable to say it to someone else, why say it to ourselves?” and asks viewers to share #OneBeautifulThought. And, they have been:

Dove is building an impressive reputation for championing self-love. The latest campaign follows on from their #SpeakBeautiful venture, the Love Your Curls campaign, and the very successful Real Beauty Sketches, which saw women describe themselves to an artist.
