Cosmetics company slammed for racist nail polish name
A COSMETICS company has been met with outrage for using a racist slur to market the darkest shade in their new nail polish line.
AN ITALIAN beauty firm has come under fire for giving a black nail varnish a VERY racist name.
In a true “what were they thinking?” moment, Wycon Cosmetics decided to name their gel polish “Thick as a N***a”, The Sun reports.
The gaffe comes a week after H&M were blasted for dressing a black child model in a hoodie printed with the words “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle”.
Not surprisingly, beauty fans were not impressed.
Italian beauty vlogger Loretta Grace was among the first to flag the inflammatory nature of the nail varnish’s name.
Others have flooded the Wycon Instagram post, which promotes their new gel polish, with outraged comments.
One wrote: “This is so disgusting.”
Another added: “I am appalled and disgusted. Awful!!!!!!”
A third wrote: “WHAT THE ACTUAL F***? DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW RACIST THIS IS?”
The cosmetic firm has used controversial names for shades in the past — including Dirty Talk and Lap Girl.
But this time they have overstepped the mark.
The firm claimed that the shade’s name is a reference to the DBangz song, Thick N***as and Anime Tiddies.
Wycon has not issued an official apology, but wrote an explanation on their Instagram comments.

It read: “We’re sorry that this post has triggered these types of reactions: every colour from our Gel On collection is inspired, with a cheerful attitude and a pinch of naivety, by famous song titles, many of which derive from the landscape of hip hop.
“For example Drop it like it’s hot by Snoop Dogg, Bootilicious by Beyoncé, Candy Shop by 50 Cent, Lollipop, Lady Marmalade etc …
“The reference here is Thick N***as by DBangz. Wycon is the brand for everybody #nobodyexcluded is our motto and we didn’t mean to offend anybody!”
Wycon has since removed all of their shade names for their Gel On polishes from their website, replacing them with colour numbers.
The Sun has approached Wycon for comment.
