Beauty Diary: 5 new beauty products in Australia I’m loving
What started as a bit of fun has turned into a huge product launch for an Australian brand after the idea went viral and captured attention.
I’ve never really been a fan of sport, mostly because I’ve got two left feet and have the attention span of a goldfish – but there’s one team that has changed all that: The Matildas.
Like most Australians, I was glued to my TV screen during the FIFA Women’s World Cup last year, eager to see the gals in green and gold bring it home.
But while we’re still a few months away from seeing the Tillies represent Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the team have found a new way to catch my attention.
The Australian CommBank Matildas have collaborated with Tbh Skincare, launching a limited-edition line of the brand’s best-selling pimple patches.
Instead of the regular spot stickers – which helped put the Australian beauty brand on the map – the zit zappers have been transformed into adorable stick-on soccer balls.
The $20 product – created off the back of an office joke that blew up – only just hit virtual shelves this week. But the brand’s creator Rachael Wilde said it was already a huge hit.
“Our ‘everyday pimple patches’ are our top seller, selling one packet every minute, so we are beyond excited to see them now in new icon status with the Matildas,” she told news.com.au’s The Beauty Diary.
“It all started as a bit of fun after I pitched the idea to our CFO and shared it on TikTok.
“But after the video earned over 100,000 views and the Matildas captain Steph Catley approved the idea, it became a reality.
“Since launching on Monday we have had so many customers buying our new limited edition product, we’re also working to get it into stores, so keep your eyes peeled for that.”
Of course, I added these to my cart the moment they were released, and I’ve shared my thoughts – along with a few other beauty newbies that have landed in Australia recently – below.
tbh Skincare x Matildas pimple patches
Price: $19.95
Available at tbhskincare.com
I’ve been a fan of the OG everyday pimple patches since they were first released as they help reduce the zit’s lifespan dramatically. I think they work best when applied at night, as I find that by the morning the head of the spot is nearly always completely gone, with the gunk also drawn out. That sore, inflamed redness is also reduced when using. While the original product is clear, making it hard to see if you do wear one during the day, these soccer-themed versions are loud and proud which I love. The make you feel as cute as they look and really embody the brand’s “spotty hottie” ethos. These are a must-buy whether you’re a soccer fan or not.
Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Intensive Moisturizer
Price: $60
Available at Sephora
If you’ve been reading Beauty Diary for a while, you’ll know I am a MASSIVE fan of this Korean beauty brand. So when this richer version of one of its cult products came out just as we entered the cooler winter months, I had to try it. The formula is a lot thicker than the original, but it absorbs really quickly and doesn’t pill on the skin. I’ve found it has left my skin lovely and moisturised without that dreaded greasy residue. It’s a really effective product that has left my face feeling fresh and hydrated, I’d definitely recommend to anyone who suffers with dry skin in winter.
Emma Lewisham Supernatural Vitale Elixir
Price: $155
Available at Mecca
I know we’re in the grips of a cost-of-living crisis, so I don’t take recommending a bougie beauty product lightly, but this new Emma Lewisham release is INSANE. The product has been billed as a natural Botox alternative due to the fact it helps facial muscles relax, giving a smoother, “skin-filling” finish. As someone nearing the end of her 30s (whelp!) I was obviously very keen to give it a go – and can honestly say I’ve noticed a difference in my skin. Just to be crystal clear, this won’t get rid of your wrinkles, but my fine lines certainly do appear softer and overall, my skin looks plump and glowy. The NZ brand has described the product’s formula as a “revolutionary cosmeceutical-grade facial muscle relaxant”, and since it hit Mecca shelves earlier this month, it has had steams of people raving about it. If you’re in a position to treat yourself and try something new, this is definitely something to consider. I love it.
Bangn Body Lip & Cheek Gloss Balm
Price: $28
Available at Sephora
Australian beauty brand Bangn Body recently released this Lip & Cheek Gloss Balm in three shades, with the two-in-one item garnering a lot of attention online since it launched. I was a little hesitant at first as I am not a huge gloss fan, even though I love the way it looks on the lips, I just hate that sticky feeling many have. These thankfully aren’t gluggy and uncomfortable. They’re actually really nourishing and have a surprising colour payout on the skin. If you’re looking for something to throw into your handbag that is easy to use on the go, these are great.
NARS Total Seduction Eyeshadow Stick
Price: $53
Available at Mecca
You can’t beat an eye product that blend easily and give effortless results – which is exactly what these shadow sticks are. They’re creamy, packed full of colour, and the product doesn’t end up in the crease of your eyelid within a few hours. As you can tell, I’m fully obsessed with this product, and have already purchased in several colours. Get amongst it if you’re on the hunt for a foolproof eyeshadow.
