A WOMAN’S nipples have died and fallen off, following a botched boob job.
Kirsty Adam, 24, from Glasgow in the UK, had an operation to boost her bust from a 36D to a DD cup after weight loss caused her breasts to “sag”.
She spent just over $10,000 for a mastopexy surgery at a reputable local clinic, figuring it was safer to have the procedure done at home than abroad, but was left with a severe infection and necrotic flesh — basically, it began to rot due to restricted blood supply.
Her surgeon, Dr Vana Vasilescu, is now the subject of an investigation and has been “erased” from Britain’s General Medical Council register, reports The Sun.
“It looks like somebody’s hacked away at me with a blunt, rusty knife.”
Kirsty had a consultation in May 2015, and the following month she met the surgeon for a pre-operative assessment.
The cost included the procedure, which was performed in July 2015, as well as an insurance policy and extensive after-care in case anything went wrong.
Nurses regularly cleaned the wounds and changed bandages, but Kirsty said she knew something was wrong when her nipples started turning black.
“After the surgery, I went to get my dressings changed. The nurse said that I had necrosis — rotting flesh,” she told The Sun.
“I knew this was possible from my research because the nipples are getting taken off and put back on and sometimes part of it cannot heal right.
“Every time I went back they took bits off. I thought it was to help the skin regenerate and grow again.
“I looked down at it and it was black. I knew it shouldn’t look that colour, but I trusted the nurse.”
Kirsty saw Dr Vasilescu in August, and claims she was assured things were OK.
However, she raised concerns with the clinic and demanded to see another surgeon, who re-examined her and put her on a course of antibiotics to clear up the infection.
She’s since had further surgery to remove the pieces of dying flesh.
In August last year, 12 months after Kirsty’s botched surgery, Dr Vasilescu appeared before an interim orders tribunal at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) following an investigation.
The hearing looked at whether the surgeon’s registration should be restricted while allegations about her conduct were resolved.
Dr Vasilescu was accused of handed an interim suspension before finally being erased from the register in February this year, and she is no longer allowed to perform surgeries in the UK.
Kirsty claims she was offered a mere $420 in compensation as a “goodwill gesture”, but says she rejected the money.
“I have to get revision surgery done because there is so much damage,” she said.
“Nothing is where it should be. Everything is too high up. My breasts are really hard, they’re sore and I have no nipples.”
