Woman shares bad Botox experience that caused eyelid ptosis
A woman has revealed the rare side-effect caused by a beauty procedure that she says she had “no idea” could happen, leaving her “two-faced”.
A US woman has gone viral after sharing the “embarrassing” results of her “bad” Botox procedure.
Whitney Buha, who runs the popular lifestyle blog Something Whitty, developed eyelid ptosis after having anti-wrinkle injections applied incorrectly into her face.
Eyelid ptosis is a condition where the upper eyelid droops over the eye and can be caused by ageing, an eye injury or a side effect after an eye surgery among other things, according to Australian Eyecare.
In Whitney’s case, the ptosis was caused by Botox being injected into the wrong part of her eyebrow, causing the severe drooping.
The 33-year-old from Chicago revealed on Instagram she has been getting the popular beauty treatment, which works by relaxing nerves to prevent the muscle from contracting, for over three years and “never had an issue in the past”.
But after spotting her right brow hadn’t lifted as much as her left following a recent treatment, Whitney returned to have additional units injected and disaster struck.

“Initially after my first visit this eyebrow (points to right brow) was drooping lower than this one (points to left brow) so she told me to come back and she injected some more into my eyebrow to lift it but it must have gone into the wrong spot and caused it to droop.”
The result has caused her left eye to appear extremely wide and as Whitney describes, appears as if “lots of white is showing”. While her right eye in comparison has a very relaxed lid, looking as if she has her eye is half closed.
The reason Whitney’s other eye appears “huge” is because it is overcompensating for the one that is drooping, something she said she was told after a consultation with a plastic surgeon about her situation.
Whitney took to her social media to share what happened after admitting she had “no idea this was possible”.
“I look like two-faced, it’s so embarrassing. I can’t believe I’m showing this, like are you kidding,” she said.
Whitney, who said the visit had been very normal before she returned for the additional units, usually has her forehead treated along with her frown lines and a lip flip.
While the effect is temporary, all Whitney can do now is wait for the Botox to wear off which can take anywhere between a few weeks to several months.
She’s now begun a course of treatment recommended by her plastic surgeon – who described the situation as the “worst eye droop” she had ever seen – that includes special eye drops and lots of workouts to help the body metabolise the Botox faster.
Until then, Whitney said she is using her hair to “disguise” her “crazy eyes”, but is updating her 72,000 followers with her progress.
Two weeks on and her eyelid is still affected but she said she’s “definitely seeing an improvement”.
But she’s sharing her story to help raise awareness and as a result caught the attention of Dr Pimple Popper who said the situation was “rare” but “will fade”.
