Why people are taking part in the ‘Barbie Botox’ trend

The Barbie movie has inspired a lot – but the latest trend has caused people to rush to skin clinics in order to get Botox done.

Barbie is literally everywhere you look – from girls of all ages dressing up in pink to see the film, to songs from the movie playing on the radio.

But now a new trend has emerged with a concerted effort to emulate “stereotypical Barbie” and it is called Barbie Botox.

It’s also called trap tox or shoulder slimming Botox and essentially involves 80 units of Botox, which 40 inserted into each side of your trapezoid.

The Botox is meant to relieve tension in your shoulders, with the best results seen two to four weeks following the injections.

Some say it results in improvement in posture as your core muscles kick in.

TikTok user @isabelle.lux said she has never “felt or looked better” a month on from getting the Barbie Botox treatment.

She said she can move her neck in a whole new way and feels like her muscles are properly engaging when she does things such as pilates – but she does hope her neck slims down more.

She also warned that she was in excruciating pain for a week following the treatment, even going so far as to say she thought she had nerve damage at one point.

One doctor has warned that some people are coming in for the procedure who might not necessarily need it.

Dr Aamer Khan works at a clinic in London and has offered the procedure for years but now more people than ever have asked about it.

Dr Khan told MailOnline: “What they are hoping for is a reduction to a point where you are getting a longer slender neck it may not actually give them that. Their expectations may be unrealistic.”

The doctor also emphasised the need to get in done properly, as it can cause long term problems otherwise.

“If the Botox is injected into blood vessels it can make people feel a bit feverish, people can get a bit unwell with it, it can cause weakness in the muscle as well,” he said.

The injections could also weaken the trap muscles, which are needed for basic movements.
