‘We splashed $7k on Turkey teeth – we haven’t drunk anything hot for 5 months’
A UK couple are in painful agony after they jetted off to Turkey and spent over $7,000 on cosmetic veneers.
A UK couple who splashed $7170 on teeth during a trip to Turkey have said they’re in agony and haven’t been able to drink anything hot for five months.
Jade and Kelly Tushingham, 30, said having cosmetic veneers fitted has “ruined their lives”.
The couple enthusiastically packed their bags and jetted off to Antalya, Turkey, after dreaming of having perfect smiles, The Sun reports.
But, months after getting the pearly whites fitted, Jade and Kelly are warning others against getting the procedure done abroad.
The couple were lured in by cheaper dental prices and decided they wanted to make the most of the trip – so planned a beach holiday, too.
But they spent their break in unbearable pain, unable to eat or drink anything but soup and mashed potatoes.
The couple said while they love their new teeth, they’re still in pain today.
Getting veneers fitted involves shaving down teeth before fitting the new set over the top of them.
Jade and Kelly, who booked the procedure through a private clinic, said they were given doses of local anaesthetic before dentists filed their teeth down.
But the pair were in “instant” agony and then had to wait a painstaking five hours in the clinic’s reception for dentists to fit temporary veneers on their “shark teeth”.
In the five days that followed, while they waited for their permanent fittings, the couple said their teeth “stubs” ached.
On the sixth day, the pair were finally called back to have their crowns fitted, but both described the procedure as being “like a bloodbath”.
The couple are now considering revisiting the Turkey clinic to demand they fix their teeth.
“I’ve always wanted it done, even though my teeth before were actually OK,” Jade told The Sun.
“But even now, we’re both still in constant pain.
“All the food at the hotel looked beautiful, but we just couldn’t eat any of it.
“We survived on mashed potatoes and soup. Even drinking was difficult as our teeth were so sensitive.
“Looking back now, we 100 per cent would not have had it done.”
The 32-year-old described the procedure as “hell”, adding: “We used some savings we already had to pay for it. They look lovely, and in pictures are perfect but it’s like a nightmare.”
Jade said getting veneers fitted in the UK costs around $35,845 per person, which is why they opted to pay a lesser price to undergo the procedure overseas.
‘Blood everywhere’
After arriving for their procedures in September last year, the couple said they became “on edge” as the clinic seemed “unprofessional”.
“Before having the actual veneers fitted we had to have all of our teeth filed down dramatically and have our temporary sets done,” Jade said.
“It was scary seeing our teeth filed down to almost nothing and it was really painful.”
Jade said after the temporary veneers were fitted they were sent on their way with an anti-inflammatory and medicated mouthwash to use.
Then, following five days of pain and being unable to eat, Jade and Kelly nervously returned to the clinic.
“The process was horrible, there was just blood everywhere,” the 32-year-old said.
Leaving Turkey a week later, the couple were still in severe pain.
“We messaged the dentist on Instagram about it when we got back,” Jade said.
“It was difficult to communicate due to the language barrier, but she advised us to take Ibuprofen for five days and also try a muscle relaxant.
“We had already been taking Ibuprofen anyway and it didn’t make a difference, so we didn’t know what to do.”
‘Just awful’
She said “nothing seemed to take the pain away”, adding: “Eating a hot meal followed by a cold drink is just awful.
“We can’t even have a cup of tea because our teeth are so sensitive.
“Everywhere we go we have painkillers.”
The women have tried to get help back in the UK, but struggled.
“No dentists in the UK would even touch them,” Jade said.
“Our teeth visually do look lovely, and we have people asking us all the time where we had them done because they want theirs done.
“We always say no, absolutely do not have them done. We would never recommend them to anyone.”
It’s not uncommon for people to jet to Turkey to get veneers on the cheap.
One TikToker recently told of how people have been swooning over him since he splashed $9,535 to get the crowns fitted.
Another said he was “over the moon” with his new look – despite people telling him he looks like a horse.
And a young woman revealed how people were saying her new teeth were “too bright” – but she didn’t care.
