$7 Bunnings cleaning hack promises to transform shower screens

"I was ready to buy a new screen until today... I literally can’t believe my eyes," the woman said after taking to the glass with the surprising tool.

Easy budget hacks to save your family $$$

A thrifty cleaning guru has shared a hack that's completely transformed her dirty shower screen, and it uses absolutely no chemicals. Instead, she used an unusual hardware item to remove build-up.

Using the budget tool, the woman was able to give her shower a new lease on life after admitting the stubborn grime, "would be the death" of her.

"Forget spending a fortune on chemicals"

The unlikely cleaning hack was shared to a popular Facebook group alongside the caption, "Shower screens will be the death of me."

The image included a 'before and after' of the shower screen and the comparison is stark. Before, the glass is murky and covered in scum and after - spotless and sparkling, as if it were professionally cleaned.

The woman wrote, "I was ready to buy a new screen until today. I used a blade to scrape off the soap scum after my usual trick of the magic eraser just wasn't cutting it and I literally can't believe my eyes."

The blade in question is the $6.95 Trojan Safety Scraper blade, which you can find in the paint department of Bunnings.

She admits that initially she was hesitant about using the blade, but said the glass didn't end up scratched at all as she used a light pressure when scraping.

"I'm still yet to go over it with a cleaner to polish it up but it already looks 100 times better," she added.

The woman concluded her post by saying, "Forget spending a fortune on chemicals, get yourself a blade!"

The Bunnings shopper also added in the comments that the whole thing was "so easy" and only took her five minutes.

Hundreds of fellow group members rushed to the comments, reacting to the incredible results.

"Running to get one now," someone said, while another added, "Okay, I NEED to try this."

"I use a blade too, works wonders," a third added.

More hacks for your shower screen

If you're not convinced by the hack but still have grimy showers that need cleaning, then don't worry, the hacks keep coming.

In a different post added yesterday, another mum in the group posted an image of her dirty shower and asked people to share their hacks for getting rid of the scum.

She wrote, "Just moved into a new place; well new for us; the place is very old. What is this on the shower screen? I have used everything!!! Vinegar, nup, Windex, won’t budge, scrubbing, nahhh not it mate. Is it just the screen 'cause it’s old?"

And the cleaning pros definitely delivered.

Heaps of people suggested the White King Mould & Soap Scum Remover Spray. "This stuff is amazing. Spray, sit for a couple of minutes and wipe with a Chux," someone said.

"The Pink Stuff and a Scrub Daddy" replied someone else, praising the winning combo.

"Buy some Cerapol from the supermarket. It’s a ceramic hot plate cream cleaner. Apply with a paper towel and watch it disappear," a different person said.

And finally, this woman had another simple approach, "Best thing ever is to buy a glass spray from the supermarket! Spray it on, leave overnight and use a dish brush to scrub your glass the next day. Rinse off and that is it!"
