LENA Dunham's first-ever Vogue cover has landed, but its already attracting criticism for being heavily Photoshopped.

The much anticipated cover was released this morning in the US, showing a wide-eyed Dunham shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, with the cover crowing  her the "queen of comedy" reports The New York Post.

However, fashion fans have pointed out that Dunham appears to be heavily Photoshopped in the glossy spread.

In one scene, Girls creator and star Dunham is photographed with Adam Driver, her on-screen boyfriend, out on the street. However, she appears to have been made to look smaller as she sits, perched on his shoulders.

Another photo - showing Dunham reclining on her bed in a Prada gown as Driver glowers in the background - Vogue appears to have completely removed one of her arms on Photoshop, reports Gothamist.

The magazine also is courting controversy by choosing a close-up photo of Dunham's face for the cover, rather than the full-sized images often used for slim fashion models. Elle magazine has recently been criticised in the US for a similar close-up picture of The Mindy Project star Mindy Kaling for one of their covers.

And in the interview, Lena further discusses the issue of nudity and sex on her hit show - after she clashed with an LA writer last week who questioned why she was naked on the show so often.

“There was a sense that I and many women I knew had been led astray by Hollywood and television depictions of sexuality,” Dunham tells Vogue.

“It’s a complicated thing. I want people ultimately, even if they’re disturbed by certain moments, to feel bolstered and normalised by the sex that’s on the show.”

The cover comes days after reports that the now-successful Dunham is conducting "therapy sessions" with struggling writers in hopes of finding new material for the show.
