Sneaky way to get more than a month off using just 14 days of annual leave

An Aussie has shared how he will strategically get almost 50 days off next year while using up just a fortnight of annual leave.

A crafty Australian has discovered a clever way to get more than a month and a half off work by using just 14 days of his 2023 annual leave allowance.

Toby Rozario, from Melbourne, unveiled his genius plan in a TikTok this week, sharing with viewers how they too could maximise their leave entitlements next year without losing any pay.

The digital creator boasted he found a way to turn “14 days of annual leave into 47 days for Australia in 2023” in his video, which has been viewed more than 800,000 times.

To get the full period between December 24 and January 2 off, Mr Rozario told followers to submit leave requests for December 28, 29 and 30.

The guide was based on workplaces that provided paid leave on public holidays.

Those chasing time off between January 21 and 29 would only have to use three annual leave days – January 23, 25 and 27, he said.

For an extended break over Easter and Anzac Day between April 7 and 25, booking the days April 11-14, April 17-21 and April 24 off, would get the job done.

People chasing a mid-year break between June 10 and 18 would only need to take annual leave from June 13 to 16 to make the most of the Queen’s Birthday public holiday.

Queenslanders however would need to take the entire period out of their annual leave, given the state holds its celebration in October, not June.

Similarly, Western Australia honours the Queen’s Birthday on a different date in September, with some regional areas expected to have the public holiday on a separate date.

While there were many fans of Mr Rozario’s calculations, the video was salt in the wound for people without access to public holidays like those in hospitality, healthcare and truck driving.

Tradies, people who ran their own businesses and FIFO workers also pointed out there was no chance they would be able to take so many breaks.

While many boasted they were “laughing in corporate” others commented they were “crying” about having to work due to their industry.

“Work smarter, not harder,” one person commented.

“Not all heroes wear capes,” another wrote, with someone else praising Mr Rozario for “Doing God’s work out here”.
