‘We don’t fear you’: Democrats unite to slam Donald Trump over ‘racist’ tweets
One of Donald Trump’s fiercest critics has hit back at the US President after he posted a series of tweets which have been blasted as “racist”.
Democrats have hit back at Donald Trump in a show of unity after he posted a series of racist tweets implying some of them were not natural-born American citizens.
In a series of tweets, the US President suggested the new generation of Democrats who have been feuding with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should “go back” to their countries to fix their governments, saying “you can’t leave fast enough”.
“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” he wrote.
“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.
“These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

The tweets appeared to target four Democratic Congresswomen — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley.
All four of them are American citizens, and Ms Omar is the only one of the four who was born outside of the US.
Ms Ocasio-Cortez swiftly hit back at the President on Twitter, saying he is “angry because he can’t conceive of an America that includes us”.
“Mr. President, the country I ‘come from,’ & the country we all swear to, is the United States,” she said.
“But given how you’ve destroyed our border with inhumane camps, all at a benefit to you & the corps who profit off them, you are absolutely right about the corruption laid at your feet.”
She went on: “But you know what’s the rub of it all, Mr. President? On top of not accepting an America that elected us, you cannot accept that we don’t fear you, either. You can’t accept that we will call your bluff & offer a positive vision for this country. And that’s what makes you seethe.”
In a show of unity with her fellow Democrats, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also tweeted out against Mr Trump’s remarks.
“When Donald Trump tells four American Congresswomen to go back to their countries, he reaffirms his plan to ‘Make America Great Again’ has always been about making America white again,” Pelosi tweeted. “Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power.”
She added: “I reject Donald Trump’s xenophobic comments meant to divide our nation. Rather than attack Members of Congress, he should work with us for humane immigration policy that reflects American values.”
Democratic presidential candidates Elizabeth Warren and Beto O’Rourke also tweeted out, slamming Mr Trump’s remarks as “racist” and “xenophobic”.
“Let’s be clear about what this vile comment is: A racist and xenophobic attack on Democratic congresswomen. This *is* their country, regardless of whether or not Trump realises it. They should be treated with respect. As president, I’ll make sure of it,” wrote Ms Warren.
“This is racist. These congresswomen are every bit as American as you — and represent our values better than you ever will,” said Mr O’Rourke.
The exchange follows days of tensions between Ms Pelosi and the liberal freshman politicians over impeachment, immigration and the consolidation of power in Congress.
Ms Pelosi sparked tensions after she appeared to dismiss the four women during an interview with The New York Times, in which she said “they’re four people, and that’s how many votes they got”.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Ms Ocasio-Cortez accused Ms Pelosi of “singling out” women of colour, which prompted criticism from longtime Democrats.
