AND so it begins. President-elect Donald Trump has launched a new website and appealed for help as he begins preparing for 4000 political appointments he will make after officially taking up his role in January.

Mr Trump launched GreatAgain.gov following the vote that contains a biography of himself and running mate Mike Pence as well as a space for Americans to read about his policies and share their own ideas.

He is already asking for expressions of interest with the “enormous undertaking” of 4000 new political appointees, more than 1200 of which need confirmation from the Senate.

“Finding qualified people to fill these jobs is an enormous undertaking, but it is critically important to making the federal government work effectively for the American public,” the site says about the huge number of ambassadors, US attorneys and Marshalls who will need to be appointed.

“The scale and breadth of the task of making so many critical appointments is daunting, and underscores the need for transition teams to get started early in order to fully staff the leadership of the next administration.”

The site describes him as the “very definition” of an American success story and lists a range of business achievements.

It said a 73-day period between election day and his inauguration will be filled with an Agency Review Team sent to government departments around the country to pave the way for the transition of power.

“The smooth transition of power is an enormous task given its size and complexity, with the added challenge of numerous domestic and global issues demanding attention. The Presidential Transition process can be viewed as a great protector of the democratic process,” it states.

Mr Trump’s campaign was based around divisive and controversial policies such as building a wall on the Southern border with Mexico and banning Muslims from entering the US — however it’s unclear how many he will stick to while in office.

The site makes no mention of the proposed “Muslim ban” but does pledge to build a wall on the Mexican border and pursue “zero tolerance for criminal aliens”. It also pledges to suspend visas being issued to any countries where the US cannot guarantee security screening and “turn off the jobs and benefits magnet”.

On the domestic front, it pledges to renegotiate trade deals, the tax code and repeal and replace Obamacare — perhaps the central tenant of his predecessor’s legacy.
