North Korea’s ambassador storms out of UN before Donald Trump’s fiery speech
WHATEVER Donald Trump had to say, North Korea didn’t want to hear it, judging by their ambassador’s heated reaction.
NORTH Korea’s UN ambassador left the organisation’s headquarters just moments before Donald Trump’s fiery speech where he threatened to “totally destroy” his country.
Ja Song-nam, the rogue state’s permanent representative at the international organisation, was pictured marching out of the General Assembly before the arrival of the US president today.
The diplomat was seen storming past delegates from around the world as he headed for the exit while others took their seats, The Sun reported.
Kim Jong-un’s team announced they were “boycotting” Mr Trump’s address, according to NBC.
They left only a junior diplomat as a representative in the assembly chambers in a major snub to the president, the news network reported.
Mr Trump used his first speech at the UN to vow the destruction of North Korea while insisting “rocket man” Kim is on a “suicide mission for himself”.
The US President also branded Kim “depraved” before appearing to threaten military action against North Korea if it does not change course.
Loud murmurs filled the United Nations General Assembly hall in New York when Mr Trump issued his sternest warning yet to Kim whose ballistic missile launches and nuclear tests have rattled the globe.
Mr Trump said unless the hermit kingdom backs down “we will have no choice than to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and his regime.”
He urged UN member states to work together to isolate the Kim government until it ceases its “hostile” behaviour.
The brash billionaire also look a thinly-veiled swipe at both China and Russia while addressing the UN assembly.
While insisting nations should reject threats to sovereignty, Mr Trump said member states should “uphold sovereignty from the Ukraine to the South China Sea.”
Russia annexed the region of Crimea in 2014 while also backing militant separatists in eastern Ukraine.
China, North Korea’s only major ally, has also aggressively asserted control over disputed waters in the South China Sea.
The Manhattan property magnate also vowed to spend “$700 billion on military and defence” declaring “very soon our military will be the strongest it has ever been.”
Mr Trump also urged fellow sovereign nations to take on his isolationist approach.
After saying as US President he will always “defend America’s interests above all else” he called on other world leaders to “always put YOUR countries first.”
He said the US would “no longer be taken advantage of” and “sign one-sided deal where America gets nothing in return.”
The six-day meeting opened this morning with a speech by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres who said the world “must not sleep walk our way into the war” when discussing the threat of North Korea.
Before Mr Trump’s speech, the US United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley also said North Korea will be “destroyed” it if continues with “reckless behaviour”.
Ms Haley spoke out about the “military options on the table” as she said the US has exhausted all avenues for dealing with Kim’s threats.
Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union program, she said: “If North Korea keeps on with this reckless behaviour, if the United States has to defend itself or defend its allies in any way, North Korea will be destroyed, and we all know that and none of us want that.”
