Jared Kushner used private email account for White House business
AFTER months of calling to lock up Hillary for using a private email, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner admits doing the same thing.
PRESIDENT Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner used a private email account to correspond with White House officials for government business, his lawyer said.
The stunning admission claim after news organisation Politico reported it had verified more than 24 emails sent between Kushner, who is married to Trump’s daughter Ivanka, and senior White House officials and external advisers.
Kushner’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell said on Sunday he had used his White House email address to conduct official business, but a personal account was used.
“Fewer than 100 emails from January through August were either sent to or returned by Mr. Kushner to colleagues in the White House from his personal email account. These usually forwarded news articles or political commentary and most often occurred when someone initiated the exchange by sending an email to his personal rather than his White House address,” he said.
It comes after President Trump has routinely blasted former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton for her use of a private emial server, leading to chants of “lock her up” at his rallies.
Clinton’s use of a private server when she was Secretary of State led to an FBI investigation under then FBI Director James Comey over whether she mishandled classified information.
She was found to be “extremely careless” however Comey recommended against criminal prosecution.
Politico reports Kushner has exchanged private emails with former chief of staff Reince Priebus, former chief strategist Steve Bannon, National Economic Council director Gary Cohn, and spokesman Josh Raffel since Trump took office in January. It claims Kushner and Ivanka Trump established a private family domain before moving to Washington last year.
There is no indication that the emails contained classified information.
The US Presidential Records Act requires all documents related to the president’s personal and political activities to be archived.
Kushner’s lawyer said he forwards emails to a government address to ensure records are kept.
The admission comes as Kushner’s wife Ivanka admitted she suffered post-partum depression after the births of each of her three children.
Trump, in an interview for “The Dr. Oz Show,” called it a “very challenging, emotional time for me.” “I felt like I was not living up to my potential as a parent, or as an entrepreneur, or as an executive,” she added.
She said she decided to reveal her struggle because post-partum depression was an “incredibly important” issue.
“I consider myself a very hard-charging person,” she added. “I am ambitious, I’m passionate, I’m driven, but this is something that affects parents all over the country.”
Trump and Kushner have three children, Arabella is six, Joseph is three and Theodore is one.
