The acting US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Audrey Strauss, revealed in a press conference that she wasn’t worried about Maxwell’s perjury charge when it came to her ability to testify against others.

“In the event that if she even were to become a cooperator, I think we could deal with that,” Strauss said.

There is an ongoing investigation into the alleged sex trafficking ring run by Epstein and Maxwell, they are currently the only people charged in the case.

Prince Andrew, who has faced backlash for his friendship with Epstein and been accused of sleeping with one of the victims on several occasions, has been urged to speak with the FBI given Ms Maxwell’s arrest.

Andrew has denied the claims against him and US authorities have said he has denied requests for an interview.

The grooming of underage women allegedly took place in Epstein’s Upper East Side townhouse, Florida, New Mexico and Ms Maxwell’s home in London from 1994 to 1997.

Arrested over a year ago, Epstein, 66, was charged with sleeping with underage girls in the early 2000s.

Epstein allegedly took his own life while an inmate at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in August.

Ms Strauss said the case against Ms Maxwell is the “prequel” to the earlier case against Epstein, the New York Post reported.

In regards to her perjury charges, Ms Strauss said she lied because the truth was unspeakable.

“Maxwell enticed minor girls, got them to trust her and then delivered them into the trap she and Epstein had set for them,” she said.
