Donald Trump doesn’t know he is the President of the Virgin Islands

DONALD Trump says he had a meeting with the President of the Virgin Islands. But there’s just one problem with that.

SO IT turns out that President Donald Trump has no idea that he is the president of the US Virgin Islands or that the majority of people that live there are actually American citizens.

During his address at the Values Voter Summit, an annual conference for American social conservative activists and elected officials, Trump said that he had “met with the President of the Virgin Islands” to discuss the devastation caused by the recent hurricanes.

“The Virgin Islands and the President of the Virgin Islands, these are people that are incredible people,” President Trump said.

“They suffered gravely and we’ll be there, we’re going to be there, we have really, it is not even a question of a choice.”

The only thing is Trump is the President of the Virgin Islands. So unless he was talking about a meeting that he had where he sat in a room and talked to himself (which we aren’t completely ruling out), this probably isn’t true.

The person who we assume Trump is referring to is governor of the US Virgin Islands Kenneth Mapp and the meeting they had together last week.

Governor Mapp’s communications director Sam Topp gave a very carefully thought over answer when responding to questions about Trump’s blunder.

“I would not want to in any way involve the governor of the Virgin Islands in any national dispute in the media about what the president knows about the relationship between the United States and the US Virgin Islands,” Topp told US publication Newsweek.

“It doesn’t serve our purpose to participate in the national hoopla over whether Donald Trump is making competent comments or not. Just look at the documents that govern the relationship [between the United States and the US Virgin Islands], and you can determine how relevant or irrelevant, or advised or ill-advised, his comments were. There’s no president of the United States other than the president of the United States.”

The White House corrected the President’s error when releasing a transcript of his speech but, as always, people on the internet were quick to notice his slip-up and call him out on it.
