Democratic National Convention schedule: Who is speaking, and when

Barack and Michelle Obama are both set to feature prominently as the Democratic Party finally holds its national convention this week.

US Election: Can we trust the polls this time?

The US election is finally kicking into gear this week, with the Democratic Party holding its national convention.

The four-night political extravaganza, featuring appearances from most of the party’s leading figures, will culminate in Joe Biden formally accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

President Donald Trump’s Republican Party will hold its own convention next week.

The Democratic convention was supposed to happen in July, but it was delayed due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

Those concerns have not gone away. So, instead of the usual set-up – everyone appearing on the same stage in front of a packed arena – this time most of the events will be held digitally. No one, not even Mr Biden himself, will have an audience in front of them.

The highest profile speakers include Barack and Michelle Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton, vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris, several of Mr Biden’s vanquished rivals from the Democratic primaries, and the candidate’s wife, Dr Jill Biden.

Once everyone else has had their say, Mr Biden will deliver his acceptance speech.

The convention is also expected to feature performances from Billie Eilish, Maggie Rogers, Leon Bridges and The Chicks, formerly known as The Dixie Chicks.
