War with Elon Musk: Governments misinformation proposal looks ‘doomed’

The creator of popular party game Cards Against Humanity is suing Elon Musk’s SpaceX, accusing the company of trespassing on and damaging a plot of land it owns in Texas.

A lawsuit filed in Texas on Thursday said SpaceX had invaded property owned by the game company, which sits next to its Starbase, and “treated it as its own for at least six months.”

“Elon Musk’s SpaceX was building some space thing nearby, and he figured he could just dump his s**t all over our gorgeous plot of land without asking,” read a website detailing the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, SpaceX, which has purchased other nearby plots, has stored construction materials such as gravel and debris on Cards Against Humanity’s land. The game company alleges that the space exploration giant has treated the property as its own without any formal agreement or notice.

“After we caught him, SpaceX gave us a 12-hour ultimatum to accept a lowball offer for less than half our land’s value.”

The company said it declined the offer and began legal action. Cards Against Humanity is a game based on amusing and irreverent answers by players to topics suggested by the cards.

SpaceX has not yet responded to the incident.

Cards Against Humanity, based in Chicago, acquired the land in 2017 as part of a campaign opposing former President Donald Trump’s border wall initiative. The company raised funds from 150,000 contributors, each donating $15 USD (about AU$22) toward the cause. Since then, the company claims to have maintained the land in its natural state, including placing a “no trespassing” sign to signal its private ownership.

The lawsuit seeks damages of $15 million USD (AU$22 million), citing not only the unauthorised use of the land but also the loss of vegetation as a result of the encroachment.

No matter what happens in court, one thing is clear: Cards Against Humanity is definitely making a few Musk cards for their next booster pack.

Musk projected to become world’s first trillionaire

Meanwhile, Musk was recently projected to become the world’s first trillionaire before the end of the decade if a new financial forecast comes to fruition. According to the Informa Connect Academy, Musk is the “clear favourite” to amass a 13-figure net worth before any other billionaires in a recently released report.

It’s forecast that Musk, already worth $241.8 billion (AU$363.3 billion) and currently the world’s wealthiest person, will reach the eye-watering milestone by 2027.

According to Informa Connect Academy, Musk’s fortune climbs nearly 110 per cent annually.

Musk became a billionaire in 2012 and has spent recent years topping the list of the world’s richest people, though at times dropping briefly under competitors including Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg from Meta fame and enigmatic French businessman Bernard Arnault.

However, it is a race to trillionaire status. The report has named others forecasting Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Barito Pacific founder Prajogo Pangestu to breach the threshold in 2028.
