Amelia Symond, the wife of banker and former Aussie Home Loans CEO James Symond, has succumbed to her long and valiant battle with breast cancer.

The mother-of-one died on Monday, December 23.

A “broken” Mr Symond issued a short statement confirming the news on Monday.

“My beautiful wife, Amelia Beau Symond. Rest in Paradise 23rd December 2024. 45 years young. God bless us all, especially our little five-year-old Stella Rose. Simply broken,” he said.

“I searched throughout my life for my darling wife,” Mr Symond wrote to former friends and colleagues on a social media post.

“The adoring mother of our five-year-old daughter, Stella Rose, and absolute love of my life.

“Little Stella and I are just devastated to lose you to heaven today.

“God only knows how I get through this but get through this for our beautiful daughter’s sake I must.

“Honey, I am what I am today because of you, my golden ray of sunshine. God speed and till we meet again my gorgeous girl.”

The former actor known as Amelia Kaldor married the banker and nephew of “Aussie John” Symond in March 2019.

According to sources, Ms Symond, who Mr Symond met through his friend bar tsar Justin Hemmes, for whom Amelia worked as a hostess at his company Merivale for 12 years, has battled breast cancer for the duration of the couple’s marriage.

Mr Symond too has struggled with serious health issues since 2017 when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, necessitating a bone marrow transfusion and stem cell transplant. He also has kidney disease requiring daily dialysis.

Despite their respective serious health issues, the couple pressed on with life and welcomed a much-wanted daughter in 2019.

They also, from 2021 – the same year he stepped down from Aussie Home Loans – launched themselves in the construction of a Bellevue Hill mansion, conservatively valued at $20 million.

Construction of the new three-level Mediterranean-inspired home – featuring five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a media room, treatment room, library, bar, butler’s kitchen, cloak room, gymnasium, sauna, pool and four-car garage – would become a welcome distraction for the couple.

It would also include a three-room nurse’s suite and courtyard to keep them well attended and comfortable at home.

An alternatives therapies advocate, Ms Symond spent the last years of her life searching for a cure for breast cancer.

In 2020 she flew to Mexico after hearing claims about Mexican alternative therapies practitioners who, among other treatments, unsuccessfully prescribed “coffee enemas” to women who were running out of options.

By the start of 2024 Ms Symond was in and out of hospital with family confirming she was fast running out of time.

Despite her declining condition, she held on, committed to raising the couple’s only child.

In a post at the weekend, Mr Symond indicated his wife’s luck was fast running out.

“Merry Christmas … it’s a bloody tough one for my immediate family this time around as my wife remains very, very ill … days,” he penned.

“Cancer is simply terrible. Keep your loved ones close as tomorrow is promised to no one. Tough times. God Bless.”
