Wilson Security calls for G20 guards on seek.com for ‘largest security operation in Australian history’
A COMPANY is looking to recruit 1000 people for a contract job in Brisbane advertised as “once in a lifetime”.
A GROUP of private security guards is being recruited for Brisbane’s upcoming G20 summit in a multi-million-dollar Commonwealth contract.
Wilson Security is believed to be looking for about 1000 guards to be “part of the largest security operation in Australian history”.
And far from being top secret, the positions are being advertised as “once in a lifetime” opportunities on SEEK.
Other attractions were a “great above-award pay rate” and “meals supplied when living away from home”.
While Wilson Security would not comment, a spokesperson for the Federal Government’s G20 Taskforce confirmed the company would provide “security guarding services” and “security equipment” for “host year meetings culminating in the G20 leaders’ summit in November”.
“Up to $12.5 million has been budgeted for these services,” the spokesperson said.

“The role of the private security providers includes access control and asset protection at G20 venues and events.”
The guards will be strictly vetted before being given clearance to work alongside highly trained state and Commonwealth police in restricted areas.
But apart from having a current security licence, Wilson Security’s job ad revealed guards should also be able to “think on their feet, have great problem-solving skills and like a good challenge”.
“Ideally, you will also have experience within large-scale events, screening, explosive testing and/or vehicle searches”.
The Queensland Police Service will provide about 5300 officers to G20 and said it was “committed” to working with the private security guards.
Applications for the positions closed on Friday.
The G20 Taskforce spokesperson said the private security guards would be put through an extensive “accreditation process”.
