The highest paying jobs in Australia revealed
New data has revealed the highest paid workers in Australia, with one profession earning an average income of $400,000.
Medical professionals are among the highest paid workers in Australia, new data from the tax office shows, with surgeons enjoying the highest average income of $406,068 a year.
Anaesthetists came in second with an average salary of $388,814, followed by internal medicine specialists with $310,848, financial dealers on $279,790, and psychiatrists on $252,691.
Average Aussies earned just a fraction of those salaries, with the average income for the 2019/20 financial year just $63,882, up 2.13% on the previous year, The Oz reports.

The Australian Taxation Office also confirmed men are paid more – an average of $74,559 per year – compared with $52,798 for women.
As for those aspiring CEOs, chief executives dropped out of the list of the 10 highest earning professions last financial year, after coming in at number nine during the 2018-19 financial year with an average taxable income of $164,896.
Meanwhile, as the average Australian paid just under $20,000 in tax, the 60 people who earned more than $1 million buckeroos paid no tax for the 2019/20 financial year.
The data, which was compiled from the 2019-20 tax returns of more than 14 million Australians, showed there’s also been a mix-up when it comes to the highest paid postcodes. Those living in the ritzy suburbs of Cottesloe or Peppermint Grove in Western Australia (where the likes of former Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and slavery eradication advocate Grace Forrest live) made a whopping $325,343 on average in taxable income.
The rest of the country’s top 10 richest postcodes were dominated by exclusive Sydney hotspots such as Edgecliff and Point Piper or Bellevue Hill. The 2030 postcode, which includes suburbs such as Vaucluse and Watsons Bay was fourth at $186,025.
Melbourne was the only other city that cracked the top 10 after Hawksburn and Toorak (postcode 3142) came in at number five with an average taxable income of $184,939.
But the same level of wealth was not shared in regional parts of the state, with NSW towns making up five of the top 10 poorest postcodes.
Regional postcodes such as 2398 (Gurley), 2386 (Burren Junction, Drildool and Nowley) or 2405 (Boomi and Garah) all had a negative average taxable income, which could be attributed to farming losses.
